Schwarzenegger's Approval Rating Falls to New Low, Poll Finds
June 21 (Bloomberg) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's approval rating fell to a new low, a poll found, after he called a special election to vote on his plans to redraw political districts and curb state spending growth.

Fifty-three percent of registered voters said they disapproved of Schwarzenegger's performance as governor while 37 percent approved, according to a Field Research Corp. poll that began on the night of June 13, after the governor ordered an election for November. That is the reverse of four months ago, when 55 percent approved and 35 percent disapproved.

``Schwarzenegger really has lost a lot of the political leverage he once had,'' Mark DiCamillo, who conducts polls for the San Francisco-based Field, said in a telephone interview. ``The well is not there as it was last year.''

The Republican governor during his first year in office used his popularity with voters to press the legislature to make it more difficult to claim workers compensation benefits, threatening to seek to have his plan approved by voters at the ballot box should lawmakers refuse. His declining popularity may make it harder for him to win support for proposals that voters will decide in November.

3. Not worth the money
The election is next year. Ahnuld is going to get his walking papers then. It's totally irresponsible of him to commandeer $80M for his ballot initiatives in Nov., while bitching about the budget.

4. Next gubernatorial election is in 2006
You run the risk of voter fatigue, recalling a governor who was installed through the recall process. There's also the money angle: Democrats and progressives don't have their own Darrel (Crybaby) Issa who's willing to publicize and fund a recall election for his own personal political ambitions -- only to get shafted when Ah-nuld crawled out from under a rock to run on his star power.

Though it would be a giggle if some small group took to circulating recall petitions. I think for about $1,000 you could really discomfit some of the old line Republicans who like Arnie as their front man, printing up recall petitions and running around with a group of friends gathering signatures. For $5,000 or $10,000, you might even be able to get some media coverage do a two week push in say, LA, San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego, with a bunch of volunteers out there armed with clipboards and petitions.

Hee, hee, hee. 37%. I wonder if Ah-nuld gets his voice mails returned from the White House anymore?

60. Arnold had already plans to run before Darrel Issa's phony act.
Issa was just there to take the heat off Arnold. The whole recall was staged by Rove to put Arnold in power, right from the beginning. Issa was but a pawn, and a willing and well paid pawn, in my opinion.

11. I'm a Californian and still can't believe
how the voters in this state were taken in by this idiot. Why anyone would vote for an inexperienced, aging "action" star whose stock in trade was mayhem and violence is beyond me. He knew nothing about the legislative process in Sacramento, and after undoing the unpopular legally mandated increase in the vehicle tax - which is what he was elected to do - has been unable and unwilling to work with the legislature to accomplish anything. He's got the police, firefighters, nurses, and educators pissed at him. His bullying tactics, which served him well on the campaign trail among voters who were blurring his fictional persona with his oversized ego, are now considered a bad joke.

I hope my fellow Californians are feeling buyer's remorse in a big way and won't make this same mistake again.

But not just Californians fell for Ronald (Bedsores for Bonzo) rayGUN. He was an incredibly popular president, even bringing "Reagan Democrats" into his fold. (Writing that last sentence almost made me vomit). I point this out because I get tired of people dissing California. True the morons in Cali voted for the Groper but MANY of us didn't and it may be cold comfort in saying "we told you so" to those who supported Das GropenFuhrer but I will take comfort wherever I can find it.

And now he's supporting the Minuetemen vigiliante groups at the border.

You notice how Arnold is not pursuing the issues related to the rip-off of $9 billion Californians by the energy companies?

If the housing market collapses, they'll be less revenue for the state and the budget crisis will get worse.

...Although Schwarzenegger has plummeted in the estimation of California voters, the Legislature is held in even lower regard.

In the latest poll, only 24 percent of the state's voters approve of the job the Legislature is doing, compared with 57 percent who disapprove....

19. Unfair Election?
In San Diego Tribune Article...

Mike Murphy, AS political consultant:

I would caution the opponents of reform not to believe summer poll numbers," Murphy said. "Let's not forget that in the summer of 2003, the Field Poll predicted Cruz Bustamante would be our next governor, showing him leading the recall pack. Additionally, anyone who really believes that the governor is down to 66 percent support among Republicans is in for a big wake-up call come November."

A big wake-up call, like the one we had in Nov. '04?
Are they planning on another unfair election? Even if they had every republican in California, it is not enough.

23. Democrats have far less than a majority
FYI, here are the latest stats on voter registration (not that it has much to do with much) as of February:

Democrats 43.0%
Republicans 34.5%
Other 4.6%
Declined To State 17.9%

Democratic counties 21
Republican counties 37

If every party member voted his or her party, the DTS and Other voters would decide the election. (DTS + GOP > 50%)

...In June 2000, 61 percent of the state's voters approved of the job Davis was doing. In May 2001, after the electricity crisis began, only 36 percent approved of Davis. That number dropped to 22 percent in August 2003, two months before he was recalled....

and not saying a peep about ENRON, who were robbing us blind.

The recall came around just in time to prevent the state from

the Boosh** regime.

Sadly, even here there are a lot of people who get their news from TV.

Support for governor plunging, poll finds
Special election, budget unpopular among Californians

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger suddenly ranks among the most unpopular governors in modern California history, as residents grow increasingly unhappy about the action hero-turned-politician's budget plans and his call for a special election, according to a new Field Poll.

Less than a third -- 31 percent -- of the state's adults approve of the job the governor is doing in Sacramento, down from 54 percent in February. The numbers are only slightly better among registered voters, 37 percent of whom are happy with Schwarzenegger's performance and 53 percent dissatisfied.

-snip-
But Schwarzenegger's high-profile battle with the Democrat-led Legislature and his continuing disputes with groups representing California teachers, nurses and public employees have taken a toll. Only 16 percent of registered Democrats approve of the job the governor is doing, while his support among nonpartisan voters has shrunk to 35 percent, down from 48 percent four months ago.

-snip-
"We've seen these type of reversals and downturns before, but almost always because of an external event, like the declining economy for Wilson or the energy crisis for Davis,'' DiCamillo said. "But here, almost nothing has changed. It's almost a self-inflicted thing.''

46. Schwarzenegger Approval Ratings Sliding
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's call for a special election and a new advertising campaign to promote his agenda have failed to arrest his slide in popularity, according to a new statewide poll.

<<snip>>

"In many ways, this poll was a reaction to the call for the special election," said poll director Mark DiCamillo, who noted that the seven-day survey began June 13, the same night Schwarzenegger announced his decision to call the special election.

"I was surprised," he said. "Usually, you would think there would be some positive spin coming out of an event like that, but not here."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050621/ap_on_re_us/schwarzenegger_poll

That last quote says it all. Thank God California's media is slightly better the national average...
