Activists go topless at embassy to protest treatment of bulls in Spain
BY ELY PORTILLO

Knight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Protests are commonplace in Washington, but 14 members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals caused a stir Tuesday by baring nearly all in front of the Spanish Embassy to protest the annual running of the bulls and bullfights in Spain.

The animal-rights activists arrived wearing bullhorns - and little else. The nine women and five men were bare-chested, clad only in underpants. Under the watchful and curious eyes of a largely male crowd, the protesters chanted "Torture is not part of my culture" in Spanish, held signs reading "Stop the bloody bullfights," distributed fliers and waved to passers-by for nearly an hour.

PETA organizer William Rivas-Rivas said the protest was meant to be "fun and upbeat," but also to open people's eyes to the suffering that bulls endure during the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. <snip>

1. Protesting bullfights good, but I don't understand the comparison
Do bulls suffer by not wearing anything but underpants? Some protests just confuse me. :wtf:

6. Well, it's apparently catching on worldwide:
Naked pair see red over fate of bulls

A PAIR of animal lovers from Oldham are heading to Spain to reveal ‘a naked truth’. <snip>

The pair will join 600 supporters of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, at an alternative event two days before the main festival – an international protest called ‘The Running of the Nudes’. <snip>

Claire is keen to get the message across, but admits she is nervous about revealing all in front of the crowds.

She said: “I am absolutely terrified, but I know it will be worthwhile. <snip>

2. Entertaining article.
A "modest" crowd taking naked pictures was one of the things that amused me.
