LAT - As Popularity Ebbs, Governor Reaches Out (Ahnold)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A chastened Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger extended a conciliatory hand Tuesday to California lawmakers, as a new opinion poll showed voters dislike the governor nearly as much as they do the highly unpopular state Legislature.

At a Capitol news conference the governor called to spur negotiations on the overdue state budget, Schwarzenegger acknowledged that the public is upset by the bickering between him and his Democratic opponents over a policy agenda he unveiled in January.

"All of us in this building can share blame -- all of us, including myself," Schwarzenegger said. "People make mistakes sometimes, and I think we learned there was a very clear message that we must work together. I am looking forward to that. The people ... feel good when things work well."

A Field Poll released this week showed 58 percent of all Californians disapprove of Schwarzenegger's job performance and 31 percent approve - about the same point former Gov. Gray Davis reached after three years in office. Schwarzenegger came into office 18 months ago with soaring public approval ratings, after unseating a governor for only the second time in U.S. history.

10. What upsets me is he wants to try to
realign districts like DeLay did in Texas. Gray Davis is not a charismatic man and I appreciate that he has apologized for the energy crisis but damn, so many people voted for Arnold because they thought it was 'fun' or 'cute'. The longer he stays, the more this blue state gets ruined.

out of billions through price gouging. You guys can thank Enron for the energy crisis that they created to line their own pockets!

11. "I am looking forward to that."
Here's this idiot just now figuring out that he has to work with the legislature in Sacramento. The delusional POS actually thought governing a state required only the ability to talk tough like in one of his stupid movies. Unfortunately for the dumbasses who voted for him the knowledge that he can't separate fact from fiction comes too late.

Schwarzenegger humbled

GOVERNOR SHARES BLAME FOR LOW APPROVAL

By Kate Folmar

Mercury News Sacramento Bureau

SACRAMENTO - With polls showing tepid support for his performance and his agenda, a conciliatory Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger conceded Tuesday that he shares some of the blame for Californians' discontent.

``I guarantee you that all of us in this building can share blame. All of us, including myself,'' Schwarzenegger said at a Capitol event where he wanted to talk about the budget, but was peppered with questions about his lackluster poll numbers. ``People make mistakes sometimes, and I think that we learn. These are very clear messages that we must work together. And so I am looking forward to that.''

Schwarzenegger's comments came as the independent Field Poll found that about one in three Californians approve of his performance -- sobering news for a governor accustomed to public adoration. Since embarking on a series of controversial government-overhaul efforts in January, the Republican governor's numbers have plunged, even as he called a special election for Nov. 8.

A separate poll released today finds that voters are inclined to reject two of his three initiatives aimed at reform. Only 35 percent of likely voters support Schwarzenegger's spending cap measure, which would give him vast budget authority, and his plan to redraw the state's legislative districts, the poll found. The only popular Schwarzenegger proposal would extend from two years to five the time it takes teachers to achieve tenure; 61 percent of likely voters support that concept.

17. Don't be fooled and don't gloat. AS loves being discounted and
coming back from bad polls to be a "winner". This scenario is not a problem for him. He is not humbled, he is not worried. And he's got something planned with the help of national money from other republicans. They aren't about to let him fail or lose his office.

Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 09:12 AM by rocknation
For instance, I don't believe for one second that Bush is throwing in the towel on SS privatization--he'll just give it another name. And since when do Rethuglicans want to "work together?" Of course, Arnold means, "we must work on getting what my backers and I want!"

Nice to see he can still blame everyone for his lousy numbers. He gives speeches and blames the problems of the State on the Democrats and Unions and zero blame on himself, but when it comes to HIS lousy poll numbers he lumps in everyone including the press, instead of HIM just taking the blame.

35. It's an apology the way "I'm sorry you're to blame" is an apology
He's blaming everybody else and then at the very end he accepts a teeny, tiny part of the blame.
