Survey: 'High risk' of WMD attack within decade
The chance of an attack with a weapon of mass destruction somewhere in the world in the next 10 years runs as high as 70 percent, arms experts have predicted in a U.S. survey. The most likely scenario is a nuclear attack by terrorists with a weapon made of black-market materials. Most of the more than 80 experts surveyed also believed that as many as five countries could join the nuclear club during the next decade.

7. Here's the link to the actual article. And Sam Nunn is involved.
He's a serious man. We will be nuked sooner than later.
_________________________________

The survey found that the most significant risk of a WMD attack was from a radiological weapon, or a so-called "dirty bomb," in which radioactive material is put into a conventional explosive device.

The next highest risk was of an attack with a chemical or biological weapon, with a nuclear attack judged least likely.

However, when the risks were combined to determine the probably of an attack with any form of WMD, the survey put the chances as high as 50 percent over the next five years, with the probability increasing to as high as 70 percent over the next decade.

Among the experts who participated in the survey were Nunn; retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf; former defense secretaries William Cohen and Frank Carlucci; former CIA Director James Woolsey; former National Security Adviser Richard Allen; former Iraq chief weapons inspector Richard Butler; former Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott; and David Kay, who led the hunt for WMD in Iraq after the fall of Saddam.

8. This stuff should be taken seriously. Smirk ignored terrorist threats
and as a result, al Qaeda was able to successfully pull of their plan to hijack passenger jets and use them as missiles against American targets. If we ignore these warnings as BS from Smirk, we will ensure that some terrorist group succeeds in setting off a dirty bomb in the US.

The threat of another terrorist attack is very real. The problem is that the Smirk admin has made "fighting terrorism" synonymous with stripping people of their civil rights, pork barrel projects, embarrassing incompetence and McCarthyist politics. As Dems discussing the threat of terrorism, we're not unlike folks living in a city where the police department is corrupt - - the cops are all on the take, harassing and assaulting citizens, and promoted for political reasons only. If you were living in a city like that, would you ignore and ridicule the usual measures to keep yourself safe from criminals? Would you leave your doors wide open and your children unguarded because the cops are all taking bribes from crack dealers?

Sane people wouldn't.

Than FODDER and FOLLY to keep the masses controlled, and are pure BS propaganda which is used for that control, and the advancement of an agenda.

Relax, you won't be attacked.

Unless the NeoCons need you to be.

Hmmmm. Bush is Freefall. 37% Approval on Iraq. Come to think of it, maybe we should be worried after all....

21. Folks have to start seeing the forest here instead of the trees
Sane people (like Clinton, Gore, Sam Nunn, Bob Kerrey, Gary Hart and others) know that terrorism is a real threat, no matter who is or is not the President or which party controls Congress. Do you honestly think that there is no such thing as anti-American terrorist groups? Do you honestly think that the ones that exist have absolutely no desire or interest in pulling off another, more terrifying attack on American soil? Do you honestly think that the policies of the Smirk admin have made it harder for terrorists to attack us - - or made them less motivated to do so?

9/11 was being planned long before Smirk stole the White House. There were attempted terrorist attacks on the US all through the Clinton/Gore admin. (And not all the terrorists plotting to destroy America are foreigners - - remember Oklahoma City?) Back in the 1990s, the media scoffed at Clinton/Gore for trying to stop bin Ladin and claiming that he or terrorism was a danger to America. The media and the GOP claimed that Clinton was just trying to distract from his domestic problems - - "wag the dog" was the cry of the day.

It was wrong then, and it's wrong now. Pretending there is no possibility of another major terrorist attack just because Smirk has cried wolf so many times is a recipe for disaster.

"Do you honestly think that there is no such thing as anti-American terrorist groups?"

Yep, there are such groups, but they are not pissed off about our non-existent freedoms or our religion.

Do you honestly think that the ones that exist have absolutely no desire or interest in pulling off another, more terrifying attack on American soil?

Not right now, Iraq and Afghanistan are much closer, much cheaper, and you can tee off on the Imperial Storm Troopers directly. If we were to bring all the troops home, the "terrorists" might well start looking at teeing off on the "homeland" again.

Do you honestly think that the policies of the Smirk admin have made it harder for terrorists to attack us - - or made them less motivated to do so?

No.

12. Study: World at Risk for Major Attack
WASHINGTON - The world faces an estimated 50 percent chance of a nuclear, biological, chemical or radiological attack over the next five years, according to national security analysts surveyed for a congressional study released Wednesday.

Using a poll of 85 nonproliferation and national security experts, the report also estimated the risk of attack by weapons of mass destruction at as high as 70 percent over the coming decade.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee surveyed analysts around the world in late 2004 and early this year to determine what they thought was the threat posed by weapons of mass destruction.

The study was commissioned by committee Chairman Sen. Richard Lugar (news, bio, voting record), R-Ind., whose nonproliferation efforts in Congress have been credited with helping the states of the former Soviet Union lessen their stockpiles of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.

14. Oooooooooooooh Oooooooooooooh Oooooooooooooh
Seriously the chances of a terrorist group killing millions of people is very slim because they know the "fallout" will be devastating for them and their cause.

Maybe if we rounded up the criminals and turned them over to the world court. I'll bet that would help restore peace.

Let me guess, the republicans paid Halliburton $50 million to fund a study to find that we are at a 50% chance of a big attack. I could have done a study that stated the same thing for $20 million. I guess us hard-working democrats are used to lower pay though:)

large.

It's gonna happen at some point.

Never mind killer bird flu and other diseases... or the environment...

We are unsustainable. And the soulless person who made our system that way is likely nt alive to see the demise of his invention.
