BLOOMBERG NEWS

U.S. airlines must tell passengers where planes were built, under a rule that becomes final today and was prompted by a U.S. lawmaker's concern that so many aircraft are being manufactured outside the country.

Carriers, including American Airlines and United Airlines, must place the information on the plastic cards in airplane seat backs that describe emergency exits.

The rule is the result of a provision that Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., who is chairman of the House aviation subcommittee, added to legislation enacted in December 2003.

1. A little late
Right. After I'm in the plane and it is taxiing I want to read that the plane was built in (enter slave-labor source of preference).

3. I'm shocked - Airbuses are made in Europe.
I was riding a US Air A-319 last year, and the lady next to me remarked how quiet and smooth it was. I responded that I preferred it to the Boeing 737 and 757. The guy across the isle gave me a look like I had blasphemed G-d.

It occurred to me to ask him the country of origin of the car he drives, but went back to tapping on my Taiwanese laptop.:bounce:
