Academy Fails to Accommodate Religions
WASHINGTON - The Air Force Academy failed to accommodate the diverse religious needs of cadets and staff, although there has been no overt discrimination, a military investigative panel concluded Wednesday.

The Air Force investigation, released by the Pentagon, required academy leaders to clarify their policies on appropriate and inappropriate religious expression. But it also credited them with moving to confront these issues.

The investigation also cited a perception of intolerance among some cadets and staff.

"The (Air Force) team found a religious climate that does not involve overt religious discrimination, but a failure to fully accommodate all members' needs and a lack of awareness where the line is drawn between permissible and impermissible expression of beliefs," the report says.

1. Yup - read about this in the paper this morning.
Something needs to be done - there is a problem down there, and it has seeped into the culture.

that said the Dems hate Christians? That was in reference to the ammendment put forward concerning this very thing. 'abusive and coercive proselytizing' were the words in the ammendment that got his panties in a bunch. Must be what Durbin's flack is really all about, because the dems had Rep. John Hostettler's (R-Ind.) words taken down.

3. the fact that
this happened at all and was condoned by the Academy Staff is a disgrace. The graduates of this school will be officers and in charge of a great number of people. This will create big problems when these cadets graduate.

4. NYT- Air Force Academy Staff Found Promoting Religion
By LAURIE GOODSTEIN
Published: June 23, 2005
WASHINGTON, June 22 - An Air Force panel sent to investigate the religious climate at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs found evidence that officers and faculty members periodically used their positions to promote their Christian beliefs and failed to accommodate the religious needs of non-Christian cadets, its leader said Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Roger A. Brady of the Air Force, who led the 16- member group, said in a news conference at the Pentagon that the academy and the Air Force as a whole were struggling to define the boundary between acceptable and unacceptable religious expression in a government institution, a reflection, he said, of a debate under way across the country.

"We believe that people were doing things that I think were inappropriate," General Brady said. "They had the best intentions toward the cadets. I think in some cases they were wrong."

He said his panel had referred seven cases of questionable behavior to the Air Force for further investigation but declined to elaborate.

6. Ugh! You confirm one of my greatest fears!
Do they really see themselves as modern-day crusaders? Or is it a religious "country club" us vs. them mentality?

Onward Christian soldiers! :puke:
