Southern Baptists end Disney boycott
http://www.sovo.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=1245

Southern Baptists ended an eight-year boycott of the Walt Disney Co. for violating "moral righteousness and traditional family values" in a vote on the final day of the faith's annual convention Wednesday.

The Disney resolution, passed at the SBC's 1997 convention in Dallas, called for Southern Baptists to refrain from patronizing Disney theme parks and Disney products, mainly because of the entertainment company's decision to give benefits to companions of gay employees.

"We felt like it was time to end it. We're hopeful Disney will do what the resolution calls for," Mims added.

The resolution states Disney should serve "families of America by providing only those products that affirm traditional family values."

Disney Does it Again: Niagra Factory Case
The National Labor Committee has released a new report about the Niagra factory in Bangladesh, where 22 union members brave enough to demand their legal overtime pay were beaten, fired, and imprisoned on false charges. The factory requires 19 hour shifts, pays no overtime, and denies maternity leave & benefits.

Read more about the case and download the report.

The Truth About Disney
Read the truth about Disney's betrayal of its teenage workers around the world. A brief history of Disney's abuses around the world is now collected in one spot.

Disney's Poor Response at the Niagra Factory in Bangladesh
Is the $25.3 billion Disney company really a pitiful helpless transnational giant with no real power, which cannot be held acountable for implementing basic social justice for its workers? You judge.

Hear Michael Eisner's own admission that the workers of Shah Makhdum deserve better... followed by his refusal to help them.

11. Zephyr says: Southern Baptists transition from faith to fantasy.
Edited on Wed Jun-22-05 03:30 PM by David Zephyr
The Southern Baptist Corporation ended its boycott against Disney because their "members" had already done so long ago.

Of course, this announcement by the SBC reminds one of the recent clinical studies in Texas that clearly demonstrated that the young people there who "professed" to practice "abstinence only" with regards to sex indeed had the highest incidence of both sexually transmitted diseases and of unwanted pregnancies.

In other words, the more these fundamentalists "talk", the less their own followers "do" which, of course, is the very definition of hypocrisy, isn't it?

How embarrassing for the SBC: their formal ending of their widely ignored boycott is, in truth, only an admission that their own members never participated in it.

The bark of their boycott never had any bite whatsoever. None. Disney never gave an inch to these hypocrites.

I think that the only news headline in this "statement' is that the Southern Baptist management (not leadership) continues to define still deeper degrees of self-delusion for itself.

Southern Baptists moving from faith to pure fantasy.

And when it comes to the issue of fantasy, well then, I'll chose Disney over the Southern Baptists.

14. Southern Baptists End Disney Boycott
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Southern Baptists ended an eight-year boycott of the Walt Disney Co. for violating "moral righteousness and traditional family values" in a vote on the final day of the faith's annual convention Wednesday
"We believe for the boycott to be effective, it had to have a beginning and an ending," said Gene Mims, chairman of the Southern Baptist Convention committee that put the Disney resolution before some 12,000 members at the meeting.

SBC delegates also passed a resolution that encourages parents to investigate their children's public schools to determine whether they are too accepting of homosexuality.

The Disney resolution, passed

22. Instead They Are Going to Campaign for More Bullying in Public Schools
SBC delegates also passed a resolution that encourages parents to investigate their children's public schools to determine whether they are too accepting of homosexuality.

More on that resolution:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=1473963

...The resolution says schools promote acceptance of gays through officially sanctioned gay clubs, diversity training, anti-bullying courses, safe sex and safe schools programs.

These are obviously the sort of people who drive around with a
"My kid beat up your honor student" bumper sticker on their truck.

or Microsoft, Boeing, and Kraft?

Nike Inc., the world's largest athletic shoe maker, has endorsed a bill in its home state of Oregon that would allow civil unions for same-sex couples, a gay rights group said on Wednesday.

Nike sent a letter to the leader of the Democrat-controlled state Senate earlier this week outlining support for a measure it said would bar discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and make Oregon the third U.S. state to extend such rights to gay couples.

"The nondiscrimination provisions contained within (the bill) are consistent with Nike's corporate policies and practices and our support of similar legislation at the federal and state level," Nike Vice President of Global Human Resources Wes Coleman said in the letter.

The endorsement comes as other large companies in the region such as Microsoft Corp. and Boeing Co.have backed gay rights legislation in other states and at the federal level, said Rebekah Kassell, a spokeswoman for Basic Rights Oregon.

The Rev. Jerry Falwell is adding his voice to a conservative movement to punish Kraft Foods for its sponsorship of the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago, just as the Illinois state House and city newspapers are coming to the aid of the event.

In his monthly National Liberty Journal, Falwell wrote, "Multiple millions of Americans who loyally purchase Kraft products have a right to express their opinion on the company's decision to link itself with the Gay Games. These people have a right to say, 'If Kraft insists on sponsoring the Gay Games, I will be compelled to seek alternative brands at the grocery store.'"

Falwell added, "Please considerately express ... your desire that Kraft Foods withdraw its corporate sponsorship of Gay Games VII."
