1. Well, Dean didn't pile on.. |
|
When ifil asked him about Durbin on the PBS interview. Au contraire..Dean had really nice things to say about Senator Durbin.. "Dean cuts through the BS and shows why he is a hero to grass-roots progressives." http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/06/22.html#a3582

2. It's not Durbin's Fault Daley's kid is the Service |
|
He should have thanked Durbin for any words uttered than might eventually lead to the end of this fiasco.

4. Daley is nothing more than a corrupt politician who does NOT |
|
represent the Democratic party or its constituents. He doesn't know how to govern. He knows how to run a mafia operation his way. Scandals everywhere in Chicago politics these days - he should be more concerned with that than what Durbin has to say. Daley sucks worse than his dad.

6. His comments weren't misinterpreted, they were deliberately misrepresented |
|
""I've known Dick for a long time. Like everyone else in the public eye, he and I understand that public statements can sometimes be misinterpreted."
That misses the point. Durbin should have never backed down.

Is Durbin an adult human being?
Is Daley just another adult human being? (Yes, I am aware of the political ramifications of ignoring anything Daley says, especially if you are going to run for re-election and need support in Illinois, but bear with me...)
If what Durbin said was the truth, wouldn't saying it be doing the right thing?
If all those things are true, then why shouldn't Durbin be condemned for his wimp-out apology? Where is the personal accountability that should be expected of all adult human beings. Are we not all responsible for our actions?
The trouble with politics today is that there is no personal accountability. The buck has nowhere to stop... it just bounces from person to person, willy-nilly. Where was the courtage to say, "Fuck you, Daley! I know torture is happening. Nothing I said, in any way was meant to reflect badly on the troops, so back the hell off." It would have been the courageous thing to do. It would have been the right thing to do. But, instead... we all saw what he did.
The buck is still out there making us all look weak. It's pitiful. I always admired Durbin, but no more.
Man, what a disappointment!

All this business about whether someone should apologize or not is juvenile bullshit. It's nothing more than feigned high-drama created for the benefit of fragile, timid, hand-wringers who cringe at small slights and hurt feelings. Democrat politicians shouldn't be drawn into this. Any demand for an "apology" should be met with an even stronger barrage, and the one demanding the apology should be thrashed for even asking. Demanding apologies is for sissies. Caving to such demands is even worse.

|
I hate him...
I want him out...
He has fucked with my life too many times. I will support any credible opposition with treasure and time. I will write letters starting today. I despise this man; how dare this stupid corrupt Irish Wiseguy sonnabitch undercut the Democratic Whip in a time of war.

12. Durbin should have publicly shrugged it off, and talked to.... |
|
...Daley in private.
Daley should have understood the point Durbin was trying to make anyway.
