Congressman Acknowledges 'poor Judgment' in Relationship With Contractor
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBVF0JNBAE.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham said Thursday he showed poor judgment in selling his house to a defense contractor who later took a big loss on it. But the California Republican said he acted honestly and predicted an investigation would prove that.

"I showed poor judgment in selling my home in Del Mar to a friend who does business with the government," Cunningham said in a three-page statement.

It was his first public accounting of his relationship with defense contractor Mitchell Wade since news of the real estate deal surfaced nearly two weeks ago.

Wade paid $1.7 million in November 2003 for the 3,826-square-foot house in wealthy, seaside Del Mar, just north of San Diego. He put it back on the market soon after and eventually took a $700,000 loss when he resold it in October 2004. During that span, home prices in San Diego County rose an average of nearly 25 percent.

Meanwhile, Wade's little-known company, Washington, D.C.-based MZM Inc., was increasing its federal contracting business. In 2004, MZM tripled its revenue and nearly quadrupled its staff, according to the company's Web site.

5. this sack of shit robs the taxpayers blind but he's the one that
sponsored the flag burning amendment?

I guess living aboard "The Duke" courtesy of that very same contractor

Congressman Cunningham has come under intense scrutiny for his latest actions. First, it was discovered that Cunningham sold his house at a vastly inflated value to Wade. Next came the revelation that, in Washington, Cunningham is living aboard a 42-foot yacht, named the “Duke Stir,” owned by Wade. This was followed by news reports that Cunningham has supported Wade and MZM in efforts to win Pentagon contracts, that MZM and Wade have donated at least $20,000 to political action committees associated with Cunningham, and that Cunningham is involved with charities that have ties to MZM.

There are news reports of both FBI and federal grand jury investigations into Cunningham’s relationship with MZM and Wade.

As of today, no Member of Congress has filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee requesting an investigation into Rep. Cunningham’s relationship with MZM and Wade.

poor judgment????? Nope - not buying

House Passes Anti-Flag Burning Bill Sponsored By Beset Congressman

http://www.themoderatevoice.com/posts/1119505045.shtml

Once AGAIN some politicians in Congress have literally wrapped themselves in the American flag, passing yet another resolution to outlaw flag burning.

You know: that issue that EVERYONE you know is upset about, that issue that everyone you know is clamoring for action on — that issue that Americans are talking about as they pay higher gas prices, watch the news about Iraq, and have their bags and their grandma's bags searched by TSA security agents at airports.

We could write a nice, objective analysis here, except it'd skirt the bottom line issue so let's be blunt:

This is an attempt by some to create an issue that is not an issue to most Americans. It is also clearly an attempt to create a "wedge issue" to use against those who vote against the amendment on the grounds that they feel it's not necessary or violates free speech. It's not about protecting a symbol that needs to be protected right now and that Americans demand be protected. It's about p-o-l-i-t-i-c-s. PURE and SIMPLE. Es sobre la politica. Completamente, mis amigos.

<snip>

"Ask the men and women who stood on top of the Trade Center," said Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham, R-Calif. "Ask them and they will tell you: pass this amendment."

REALLY? Did our readers know that Randy Cunningham is a psychic — that he KNOWS that the people who died at the Trade Center all wanted this amendment — this amendment that many thoughtful CONSERVATIVES feel is totally unnecessary?
