No sign of Taliban commanders as Afghan offensive winds down
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AFP) - A group of top Taliban commanders appeared to have slipped the net as Afghan and US forces wrapped up one of the bloodiest offensives since the fall of the regime.

Defence officials in Kabul said earlier that soldiers had surrounded four Taliban chiefs holed up in southern Afghanistan's mountains, including the brother-in-law of fugitive militant leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.

The US military said it was now engaged in a hearts-and-minds drive to bring medical care to a district devastated in the battles and rebuild a mosque which was destroyed by enemy fighters.

"It looks like the fighting has certainly died off and whatever enemy forces that were in the area that we didn't kill or capture might have fled," US military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jerry O'Hara told AFP.

How many civilians we're killed or wounded in this offensive...last numbers on "Taliban" killed were 102.

1. "...whatever enemy forces that were in the area ...
...that we didn't kill or capture might have fled,"

Pure genius! It's reassuring to know these guys are in charge.

Remember Rumsfeld saying Osama s either in AFG, or another country, or dead?

Minds like steel traps, I tell you!

2. It is easy to win hearts and minds after
you blow off arms and legs. Captive audience.

"Here ya go, a nice shiny new cemetary for all your folks we just blew up". I'm sure they just love us.

Funny how everytime we run an operation in that region the big guys manage to slip away.

4. Sure it was.
Tallyban were spotted all around the mosque something like 6 times a day so we had to blow it up to save it from the bad tallyban.
