Bush plans primetime TV address...
Bush plans primetime TV address as six US troops feared dead in Falluja

Julian Borger in Washington
Saturday June 25, 2005
The Guardian

President George Bush will make a primetime appeal to Americans next week to shore up dwindling domestic support for the war in Iraq, where insurgents have inflicted one of their deadliest attacks in months on US forces.

Mr Bush will attempt to persuade an increasingly sceptical public to maintain support for the war in a speech on Tuesday evening at the Fort Bragg army base in North Carolina.

~snip~

"People see disturbing images on their television screens coming out of Iraq," Scott McClellan, the White House spokesman said yesterday, adding that Mr Bush would seek to bolster support in his Fort Bragg speech.

"The president will be talking about the broader view about what we're trying to achieve there," he said. "The American people have not really heard the strategy for success in Iraq."

Then I'll listen.

Until then, I am as loyal to him as he is loyal to us.

23. Put a laugh track to it and you have a comedic masterpiece
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 01:22 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
I read that Chevy Chase did something similar with an LBJ speech, about US policies around Vietnam.

I think he was still in college, and produced this for a film class or journalism class.

Apparently, he got in trouble for it. I thought, at the time, that's such a great idea, albeit a dark humored concept.

This would be great to do the speech on Tuesday. Probably even funnier than the "search for WMD's" he performed at the WH press dinner.

Maybe a sincere shade of silver? How about that "I'm not old but I'm mature" shade of shimmering bronzed brown? Perhaps the traditional look of wisdom imparted by graying hair at the temples?

5. Well, I'm depending on some at DU to report on this, because I
WON'T WATCH!!! I just can't anymore. The few times his image appears on TV and I'm too busy with something else to change the chanel, I find myself screaming obcenities at the TV and getting irate with everything else around here. It's simply NOT worth it to torture myself. I'll find a movie, or FoodTV or something to watch Tues. night.

I hope there's some of you who can manage to watch enough of his BS to relate what kind of crap his pushing this time.

They're already saying there will be no policy change in the address, so he's just cheerleading, right?

"The American people have not really heard the strategy for success in Iraq."--Snotty McClellan

Well hell, Snotty, now why do you suppose that is? Maybe because YOU DON'T FRIGGING HAVE A STRATEGY? (Actually, we all know they do have a strategy. But "steal the oil" and "bigger Halliburton profits" are a pretty hard sell to a family who just brought their kid home in a body bag.)

My mouth dropped open when I saw that. Unbelievable. TWO YEARS into this abortion and he's admitting "the American people haven't heard the strategy."

It's not noon yet, but I need a drink.

"They're trying to shake our will," he said. "And so, of course, we understand the nature of that enemy. We also understand that there is reason to be optimistic about what's taking place. We're optimistic that more and more Iraqi troops are becoming better trained to fight the terrorists. We're optimistic about the constitutional process.

WTF

First,

I thought understanding the nature of the enemy was what we libruls tried to do after 9/11.....but, if you understand the enemy you're soft on terra, 'member, like karl said.

And,

Are you telling me optimism is your f**king strategy!!!

61. I get the feeling that this little
dog-and-pony show is going to be a "blame the media" fest. Didn't he say in so many words that the media is to blame for showing pics of the explosions and "insurgent" attacks, when he gave that little presser this week with the prime minister of Iraq? Didn't Rummy say that people weren't so much turning against the war as being "pushed away" from supporting it? This is going to be a "call on the reporters that throw softballs and tell us that the pictures are lies" catapult of propaganda. Utter horseshit, in other words.

65. Bet he talks about a secret plan to win the peace in Iraq.
And I can almost bet that'll be a direct quote.

70. I misread the SUBJECT line as...
"Bush plans primitive TV address"

Hmmm. That works too.

71. This "address" has been talked about for the past month

as some "major" address. Would he acually dare to ramp up with an "attack-Iran" policy statement?
