Iran's supreme leader says US 'humiliated' by election
TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran's all-powerful supreme leader said the United States had been "humiliated deep inside" by the Islamic republic's presidential election, won by hardliner Mahmood Ahmadinejad.

"Despite its babbling, your enemy is now humiliated deep inside because of your greatness and the transparency of your democracy," Khamenei said.

The terms "arrogance of the world" and "enemy" are Iranian regime speak for the United States, also known here as the "Great Satan".

Khamenei told Iranians the election was "practical proof of your commitment to bravely guard the Islamic republic's interests (and) fulfil all the Islamic and revolutionary ideals."

5. He's right in that our 'democracy' is transparant.
That having been said, I don't disagree with you. :)

2. There's an old expression, "cut off your nose to spite your face."
I wonder if that's what the Iranians have done.

In any event, they have certainly sent a message loud and clear to bush and his minions. It begins with F and ends with O.

16. I did not know that.
But if I heard my mother say that once, I heard her say it a thousand times. Made me learn to think twice before acting spitefully.

I imagine not having a nose creates far more problems than just disfigurement.

4. Wonder if a hardline bad ass was elected because they figured that
was what was needed in the next war, you know the one that bush** has been planning for since 200?.

Hey, maybe they were looking for a guy who would protect them and was strong on 'terra' just like the schmuck squatting in our White House.

9. My thoughts exactly!
Bush needed a hardliner in there to justify going to war against them.

6. The real victims of humiliation
were the Iranian people who voted for candidates that were screened and pre-approved by the mullahs.

11. If Bush hadn't opened his stupid mouth and called the Iranian election a
sham perhaps the more moderate candidate would have won. He played the role that Osama did in our election. He reminded the Iranians of who they hated and feared, and caused an irrational reaction in the populace.

14. Yes, I do
Osama popped up a few days before our election, and the fear caused people to rally around our brave leader. Maybe not enough to turn the election (I'm sure electronic voting also played a part) but it was large factor in giving Bush his win.

America is like Osama in Iran. Remind the Iranians of how America has meddled in their lives like Bush did right before the vote, and you are going to get a lot of people who are going to vote against their best interests just to spite the "Great Satan."

15. He who laughs last...
The US wants hard-line idiots in charge of Iran. It will help with their justification for invading and occupying the country.

17. Are we sure the election was fair?
Who's to say it wasn't fixed! Iran, I've been told, has a population that is something like 75% under-30. They don't want hardline fundamentalism (unless it's to protect them against the U.S.?)
