A woman who fell off a shrimp boat in the Gulf of Mexico was found Wenesday evening after she painted "SOS" on an empty oil rig more than 70 miles south of Galveston.
Coast Guard official said Melinda Lopez, 34, had fallen overboard between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Search boats, helicopters, and a military jet looked for her Wednesday. Lopez we rescued about 6:30 pm after a searcher from the air noticed "SOS" painted on an oil rig. Lopez had used a can of spray point she found on the oil rig.
Moral of this story: if you're falling off a boat into the ocean, you should grab either (a) the railing, (b) a life preserver, or (c) a can of spray paint.

1. I'm surprised the paper didn't report it as, |
|
"Oil rig saves life."
Houston is a big oil town, after all!
