Israeli [soldier] guilty of shooting Briton
"A former Israeli soldier has been convicted of the manslaughter of a Briton shot in the Gaza Strip in 2003.

The ex-private was found guilty at Castina military court in Ashkalon, near Tel Aviv, of the manslaughter of Tom Hurndall, 22, of north London.

Mr Hurndall had been working as a photographer and activist when he was shot in the Palestinian town of Rafah. He died after nine months in a coma.

It had been alleged shots were fired from an Israeli army watchtower. "

1. Good. Now if only they'd actually do something about the killing
of his friend and co-activist Rachel Corrie who, contrary to the lies of the right was doing nothing more than attempting to stop the destruction of the home of a doctor not wanted for any crime whatsoever.

3. I was thinking of Rachel too when I saw this. It seems like Justice
is a fleeting, fickle thing.

Tom Hurndall

Tom Hurndall was shot by an Israeli soldier late in the afternoon of Friday April 11, 2003. At the time he was shot, there were no ongoing armed hostilities. Children were playing in the area, and he was wearing a fluorescent yellow vest to alert the IDF to his presence. It appears that he was shot intentionally.

The Hurndall family’s quest for an impartial investigation shows clearly the gap that exists between the image of investigations portrayed by the IDF’s public relations unit and the reality.'

4. A giant step for mankind
He behaves like a beast - still; put him behind wire for twenty years.

5. Before we get too excited about Israel finding one of its soldiers guilty
it's worth remembering that the Israeli army initially denied that anybody had done anything wrong.

The victim's family had to go to Israel and dig up all the evidence themselves and then force the Israeli army to reopen the case.

The Israeli army has now found an Israeli Bedouin Arab guilty of this crime.....draw your own conclusions.....

Also, the victim's brother was not allowed into court to hear the verdict - Israeli security stopped him at the airport when he arrived with his father. They detained him as a "security risk" until the trial had finished........

Nice justice there.

6. Clearly the Israelis came under pressure to do something in
this case, and they have sacrificed an Arab soldier who says he is being scapegoated.
