2. That's what happens when you hear the case in Alabama
and not in NY. Very unpredictable jury.

14. Yeah. If they had tried the case in New York,
maybe he could have gotten the Amadou Diallo jury. They wouldn't have let Scrushy get away with any funny business. :eyes:

3. !!!
W O W

So all you have to do in order to beat the system is this: steal a whole shitload of money, get away with it for a few months, and then spend a fraction of that money on top-notch legal defense.

The perfect crime?

9. As in Michael Jackson...
alluding that he hired top notch legal representation, and they used the media before and during the trial to plead their case.

12. He also played the Jesus Card
I read that after his indictment Scrushy started showing up on local TV in Alabama preaching and making goo - goo eyes at the Lord on a regular basis.

11. CEOs get to embezzle millions and call it "pay packages"
but have no ultimate responsibility for criminal activity at their companies?

This is utter garbage and more proof the courts are rigged, too.

13. Unfortunately
the laws on the books when he committed the crimes were very ambiguous. The recent Sarbanes act should help with this kind of bs.

16. Right.
I think it should have been illegal for him to have his own TV show this past year...the one where he sat with the black preacher from the largest Birmingham church to discuss God. Such an obvious ploy to sway the jury.

You just know he paid them off. This is disgusting. What is wrong with those people, didn't they hear the 15 HS indicted people all say SCRUSHY WAS NECK DEEP IN THIS?

Didn't he give that church a million dollars. Maybe it was more than, I'm not sure.

The jury should've been sequestered.

Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 01:32 PM by youspeakmylanguage
...Thanks to millions of dollars of philanthropy, Scrushy's name was soon on roads, buildings and playing fields around the state and particularly in Birmingham, where HealthSouth is based.

Why in the hell did they try him in his own backyard when he has the whole city in his back pocket?

No surprises here. Welcome to the deep, dirty south.

Jury finds Richard Scrushy not guilty for role in $2.7 billion accounting fraud at health care firm.
June 28, 2005: 1:44 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Richard Scrushy, former CEO of HealthSouth Corp., was found not guilty Tuesday on all charges in the $2.7 billion accounting fraud at the hospital chain.

Scrushy was the first major figure charged with violating the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act, a corporate reform measure passed after a wave of corporate scandals that followed the collapse of Enron.

A federal jury in Alabama began deliberating about six weeks ago and appeared deadlocked until last week, when the judge replaced one juror on the 12-member panel with an alternate juror.

As the verdict was read in the early afternoon, defense lawyers were crying while the prosecutors sat stone-faced, according to a CNN correspondent who was in the courtroom. Scrushy hugged his wife and his pastor.

29. I was listening to Finebaum today
I was kind of wishing they would talk about sports for a while. But it was all Scrushy, at least the part I listened to. Finebaum said something like "Everyone in Birmingham knew that Scrushy was guilty, and everyone in Birmingham knew that he would walk."

Michael Jackson, OJ Simpson, and Jayson Williams come to mind.

To be rich in "Murica." Money talks, perps walk.
