Five pit bulls under quarantine after attacks

Five pit bulls remained under quarantine Tuesday following separate attacks in which children and other dogs were bitten, authorities said.

All of the incidents occurred within an hour of each other Monday and were the latest in a string of such attacks seen in the Bay Area in recent weeks.

In the most severe of the incidents, a 5-year-old boy's hand was bitten by as many as three male pit bull mix dogs on the 1400 block of Sunshine Court in East Oakland, said Sgt. Dave Cronin of the city's animal shelter.

About 30 minutes before in San Francisco, a pit bull chased a 12-year-old girl as she rode along the 1400 block of Palou Avenue on her bicycle, said Sgt. Neville Gittens, police spokesman. The girl fell from her bike, and the dog bit her arm several times, Gittens said.

At about the same time, a 5-year-old neutered pit bull named Blackie leaped from the window of a motor home in Rohnert Park and charged toward a man walking his two boxers.

2. My brothers friend swore by his pit bull.

It wouldn't hurt anyone etc. One day his dog attacked him and bit him in his testicle and he had to have it removed.

That was in the 90's in Everett, WA.

I can't help thinking back to it when people start swearing by their pit bulls.

3. Every dog can potentially bite when frightened or irritated

but only a pit can bite with 2500 lbs per square inch. I had a neighbor with a friendly pit bull, and I avoided him after seeing him hanging from the clothes line by his teeth, just rocking back and forth for fun. Those are jaws that can crush your windpipe.
