June one of the deadliest months for U.S. troops in Iraq
~snip~

At least 68 U.S. soldiers, Marines and sailors were killed by hostile fire in Iraq, the fifth highest number since the war began, according to Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, a Web site that compiles official casualty reports. The June total could continue to rise as troops die from wounds sustained during the month.

~snip~

At the close of 2003, U.S. commanders put the number of insurgents at 5,000. On Thursday in Baghdad, U.S. Brig. Gen. Donald Alston said there were between 15,000 and 20,000 insurgents, though he said not all of them fight every day.

As of June 27, insurgents launched more than 70 car bombings during the month, according the U.S. military. While that figure was below that of the two prior months - at 81 each - it's more than any other month since the war began in March 2003.

Attacks on Iraqis have also increased. A blistering round of car bombs and assassinations killed more than 1,675 Iraqis after the nation's interim government was seated April 28, according to icasualties.org.

7. Bush could not have picked a worse time
to give his "Pep talk" on Tuesday. His whole speech, his justifications for the war but no solid plans, his optimism, fell like a brick.

Like a heli, that has just had its hull torn out from a shoulder-fired missile.

and very sad for the soldiers. Lt. Colonel Boylan has discovered the meaning of "Guerilla"...

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,15789196%5E663,00.html

~snip~

Lieutenant Colonel Steven Boylan, a top US military spokesman, said the insurgency continued to evolve.

"The enemy we are fighting is a learning enemy and reacts to what we do just as we react to what they do if they change tactics," he said. "It is a continuous cycle of action, reaction, counteraction and counter-counteraction."

The number of daily attacks against troops with the US-led coalition had dropped to the 30s after national elections in January, but they're now back to about 70 a day.

Attacks on Iraqis have also increased. A blistering round of car bombs and assassinations has killed more than 1675 Iraqis after the nation's interim Government was seated April 28.

"They've gone to more spectacular systems that can inflict more casualties per attack," said General Alston.

... :eyes:

14. U.S. deaths up 34% since Iraqis took over own government
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The number of U.S. deaths in Iraq increased about 34 percent in the past 12 months compared with the year earlier.
About 882 U.S. troops were killed in the past 12 months compared with 657 in the year prior. Iraq was granted sovereignty a year ago.

In June, Iraqi insurgents using more and more car bombs and roadside explosives killed at least 79 U.S. troops.

President Bush warned this week that there would be "tough moments that test America's resolve" in Iraq.

17. Gen. Alston is a fucking MORAN! 15-20,000 insurgents?
What a fucking IDIOT!!

We've killed or captured several hundred in the last couple of weeks and are housing at least half that number at Abu Ghraib!

These people are batshit insane!

19. Yeah, that's probably why
all of Iraqi is still a combat zone and US troops can't secure the road from Baghdad to the airport...

I'd say closer to 100,000 if not twice that.
