Canadians train for combat in Afghanistan as insurgency escalates in Kanda
OTTAWA (CP) - Canadian soldiers heading for Afghanistan are being prepared for direct combat with Taliban fighters as insurgents promise more - and more sophisticated - attacks on foreign troops.

The 250-strong provincial reconstruction team, or PRT, being deployed beginning in two weeks, has undergone heightened training, their commanders well aware of the recent dramatic increase in the threat of violence against them.

The troops, mainly from Edmonton, will take over patrols in and around Kandahar from a U.S. team that was attacked by a suicide bomber less than a month ago. Four soldier were injured.

Afghan and U.S. officials warn that such attacks will likely escalate in the coming weeks as the country prepares for elections scheduled Sept. 18.

liberals and progressives don't support the action to remove the Taliban from power in Afghanistan IS a Karl Rove talking point.

So, I'm actually opposing DU'ers who are trying to prove Karl Rove right.

Real liberals and progressives hate the Taliban and glad to see them removed from power, and hope the US and its allies achieve victory over them.

Karl Rove liberals and progressives view the Taliban as a legitimate national resistance and the US and its allies as the real bad guys.

3. I have a feeling Canadians will start coming home in a box now, too.
There have been about 6 so far, although 4 of those were from a U.S. bomb. There are bound to be more soon. If Bush had kept out of Iraq, and really concentrated on helping Afghanistan, who knows? But the good will has been frittered away, and western forces will now get the treatment the Russians got, I think.

5. Herr Busch wants EVERYONE to join the "fun"....
...and his idea of "fun" is Armaggedon in the Biblical sense of the word.

I am very sorry that Canadians have been forced back into the fray. This situation grows worse with each passing day.
