Blast at (London UK ) City tube station
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1188265,00.html

"There has been an explosion at London's Liverpool Street Station, according to reports.

The blast happened at Aldgate East station on the Metropolitan and Circle Lines.

The explosion was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line".

BBC radio 5 is now reporting a second incident at Edgeware Road station. Several main line and tube stations closed.

is that a power surge caused a problem with the transformer at Liverpool Street which ran up the line to the next transformer at Edgeware Road. No suggestion of terror at the moment.

33. This is London!
We don't do terror, we do annoyed. I'm pissed off at having a half-hour walk after the tube shut down (from experience, I know that trying to get a bus or taxi when this happens is usually futile). Police like headless chickens everywhere. Russell Square station cordoned off. Heard what sounded like a distant explosion from my office at about 0947.

8. Blair is toast if this is a bombing!
If this turns out to be a bombing by Islamic fundamentalists, then Tony Blair's politcal career is finished. All because he went along with Bush's invasion. Remember what happened to Jose Maria Aznar in Spain after the bombings in Madrid?

43. Not quite.
Aznar didn't lose because he sided with Bush on the Iraq invasion. The Spanish people had little love for that, but when he trie to pin the rap on the Basque separatists, he was TOAST. Before then, he was believed to have a small but significant lead.

69. Even with the election behind him, how can he face his people?
With pushing his country into an invasion that the British people NEVER wanted, he should have known full well of the implications. He made the British people sitting ducks. His party is going to have to bring pressure upon Blair to pull his forces out of Iraq.

94. I was referring specifically to Anzar.
But you're no doubt right about Blair. He went WAAAAY beyond merely "going along with Bush". He was the chief enabler. Without his whorish support, there'd have been NO cover for that bogus "Coalition of the Willing". And without that, it's quite possible that Bush would have hesitated. I'n sure the British people know that, and also know WHO to blame.

38. I don't know about that......
if a power surge blew a transformer, those things go with a pretty huge bang....if the safety mechanisms failed and the power surge went down the line, that could blow other equipment too.

Electrical explosions can be very powerful.

32. People hurt in Tube 'power surge' (BBC News)
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/4659093.stm>

Thursday, 7 July, 2005, 09:02 GMT 10:02 UK

People hurt in Tube 'power surge'

Several people have been injured after explosions blamed on a power surge led to the whole London Underground network being closed down.

British Transport Police said some of the power surges had caused explosions. Surges took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations.

A spokesman said there were "walking wounded" at Liverpool Street station but one person's life was reported to be "at risk". London Fire Brigade said four crews were at Liverpool Street and more were on their way.

A British Transport Police spokesman said that emergency services were dealing with reports of an explosion at 0849 BST on the Metropolitan Line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate. One passenger, who had left the Tube at Fenchurch Street Station, and walked to Aldgate East, told BBC Five Live that he saw injured people.

Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 05:03 AM by Cascadian
Morning has arrived here. Bush is out of the country. Cheney is no where to be found. Has anybody thought about this? What if crap happens over here as people head for work this morning? I don't want to sound paranoid but I get a weird feeling about all of this. Also, don't forget Bush approval ratings are way down.

57. "Many hurt" - Union official says "at least one explosive device"
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 04:26 AM by Pert_UK
"Many people were hurt today in a "major incident" on the London Underground as an apparent power surge caused at least two explosions, wounded commuters, and plunged London's transport network into chaos.

Union officials said their sources had told them there had been at least one explosive device on the Underground. A Sky News producer who was evacuated from Kings Cross and was walking towards Russell Square also reported seeing an explosion on a bus. He said the blast was caused by a bomb, and said people with "blood injuries" emerged from the bus. Scotland Yard could not immediately confirm the report...

Eyewitnesses reported "multiple casualties" at Liverpool Street. One witness who had been in a train at the time of the explosions reported seeing "bodies everywhere" in the carriages and limbs lying in on the floor. Emergency services reported several injuries. Scotland Yard declared the emergency a "major incident".

The incidents caused a complete shutdown of the London Underground system, which is thought to be unprecedented. LU confirmed the incidents had been caused by "something to do with the power supply".

A British Transport police spokesman said that two trains remain stuck in tunnels at Edgware Road, but it is not known if they have collided or if passengers remain onboard."

Many hurt in tube chaos

· Bomb on Underground, union says
· Witness saw 'bodies everywhere'
· Tube network shut down

Sarah Left and agencies
Thursday July 7, 2005

Many people were hurt today in a "major incident" on the London Underground as an apparent power surge caused at least two explosions, wounded commuters, and plunged London's transport network into chaos.

Scotland Yard could not immediately confirm the report.

Article continues
British Transport police said several power surges had caused explosions across the network at Aldgate, Old Street, Kings Cross, Russell Square and Edgware Road. Emergency services crews attended wounded passengers outside Aldgate station, and there were reports of passengers covered in soot emerging from King's Cross. Travellers emerged from tunnels covered in blood.

Tube network shutting down means the regular buses are packed (that's why I walked). Timing bombs to go off on the regular buses after the tube closure would be an obvious tactic, but at that time on a rainy morning I'd expect the tour buses to be fairly light on passengers.

Don't know about DC but New York is always vulnerable
Crammed with people with backpacks and briefcases all over the place plus homeless wrapped in coats in July and not enough cops to go around. They've even cut back on toll booth clerks.

In brief, it's suicide bomber's paradise.

At least in New York little visible security. I hope they have some sort of detection system but I doubt it--the system is just too big.

Londons Underground is similar in size and age to New York.

But mostly angry with the morally corrupt and utterly hypocritical pieces of shit that consider that indiscriminate bombing of civilians is an appropriate way of furthering their aims and their bastardised version of religion.
