DUBAI, July 7 (Reuters) - Al Qaeda group in Iraq said in an Internet statement on Thursday it killed Egypt's top envoy to Iraq who it had kidnapped, saying he represented a "tyrannical" government allied to the enemies of Islam.

"We al Qaeda in Iraq announce that the judgement of God has been implemented against the ambassador of the infidels, the ambassador of Egypt. Oh enemy of God, Ihab el-Sherif, this is your punishment in this life," said the group, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. The group posted a video showing the hostage speaking but did not show the actual killing.

Zarqawi group executes Egypt Iraq envoy

DUBAI (AFP) - The group of Al-Qaeda's Iraq frontman Abu Musab al-Zarqawi said in a website statement it had executed Egypt's top envoy to Baghdad who had been abducted in the capital at the weekend.

"We announce that the judgement of God Almighty has been executed on the ambassador of the infidels, the ambassador of Egypt," it said in a statement which could not be authenticated.

"The ambassador of the infidels has confessed information that showed that his regime is an infidel and which proved his affiliation to the Jews and the Crusaders," it said Thursday.

"His confessions have been recorded," added the site.
