Iraqi rebels bomb Baghdad water pipeline at height of summer
BAGHDAD (AFP) - At the height of summer, Iraqi rebels bombed a water pipeline feeding Baghdad, cutting off supplies to half the city in the third such attack in three weeks.

The pipeline carries water to Karkh, on the west side of the capital, where temperatures currently top 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).

"The pipeline linking the Tarmiyah pumping station to the capital was sabotaged," an official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"We are going to the site to evaluate the damage," he added Thursday.

10. Correct
And strategic bombing theory which is the genesis that would motivate USAF targeteers to bomb the water supply, has breaking the will of the enemy civilian population as one of it's goals.

Thus if the insurgents are bombing the same targets that a USAF bombing campaign would - one has to wonder who the insurgents see as the enemy.

Coalition forces are going to have plenty of KBR supplied water to drink - I guarantee you.

12. You're right.
I suspect the civilian 'government' is the target.

Maybe it's parallel to one version of Marxism I was taught in the 70s--to achieve a revolution you don't make the plight of the workers better, instead, you make it as bad as possible. That way they revolt sooner.

Maybe it's a honor-based game. How can a righteous, Allah-approved government not provide for its children? Or showing that the government is just incompetent.

and not some black-ops squad whose job is to keep the chaos going so Halliburton can keep cashing in. And why didn't anybody figure out how to protect the water pipes after the first attack?

5. Because US troops are wandering around in the border cities...
...driving thousands of families into the desert. Meanwhile insurgents strike with impunity in Baghdad.

9. I'm thinking of the al Qaim operation
Which has driven thousands of families out of the city. Chris Allbritton also discusses the smaller operations mounted by the US around the Iraqi border:
