Pa. National Guard says recruit is AWOL (Deceptive Recruiting)
http://www.pennlive.com/newsflash/topstories/index.ssf?/base/news-28/1120740872236980.xml&storylist=penn

A recent high school graduate who alleged that she was recruited into the National Guard through deceptive practices did not appear for her entry training Wednesday and now is considered absent without leave, officials said.

Guard officials said they will seek a warrant from a district judge to force Jessica Faustner, 18, of Bath, to go to training at Fort Indiantown Gap, Lebanon County.

"We will pursue this pretty strongly,"' said Lt. Col. Chris Cleaver, spokesman for the Pennsylvania National Guard. "We just want soldiers fulfilling their requirements."

Faustner's mother, Joan Koberly, said her daughter had been attending the monthly drill weekends at the Allentown National Guard Armory but stopped in April on the advice of her lawyer, John Roberts.

Faustner said Thursday that a recruiter had told her that the Army National Guard would send her to nursing school after basic training, but instead her unit had been told it had a 90-percent chance of going to Iraq.

2. She will probably lose her case because she signed a contract however,
the publicity will be bad for recruiting and that's good.

3. Thanks RamboLiberal...
I'll be curious to see if the conservative Allentown Morning Call, or conservative WFMZ will give this any coverage. I haven't heard a peep about this until now. This is one example of why I cancelled my subscription to the Morning Call, and get my news from the DU and web.

5. Tell everyone about Mothers Against the Draft:
1. Sign petition
2. Download opt out forms: these are the forms that request that your school not automatically send information on your kid to the military. The No Child Left behind Act requires schools to send information on high school students to the military, unless the parent or the child requests that this information not be sent. These opt out forms are simple and easy to use. Download them freely and pass them around.

6. What a shame
the Texas Air National Guard didn't/doesn't pursue this kind of conduct as forcefully as PA. Doesn't some asshat in the WH still have a few drills to make up?

7. On the bright side...
She will be able to run for president later. If she had gone to Chimp's Clusterfuck in Iraq and came back with medals, then any hope of a political career would have been ruined.

PA National Guard Recruit Is AWOL

Roberts said Thursday that a recruiter had told Faustner that the Army National Guard would send her to nursing school after basic training, but instead her unit had been told it had a 90-percent chance of going to Iraq.

“A 17-year-old girl should be thinking about her prom and her graduation, not about going to Iraq. She was just misled all the way around. She’s not real sophisticated,” said Roberts, who said his client was recruited at Northampton Area High School about six months ago.

But the military can lie and practice coercion.
