Seventeen in Congress sign Conyers' letter on Rove
RAW STORY

A letter penned by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) calling on Bush adviser Karl Rove to explain or resign over his role in outing a CIA agent has garnered a handful of signatories in the House, RAW STORY has learned.

Just 17 members have signed. Finding congressmembers to sign a letter during a Congressional recess is often difficult, and Conyers' office has extended a deadline for others to sign on until next Wednesday.

The current signers are Reps. John Conyers, Jr.; Maurice Hinchey; Sheila Jackson Lee; Sam Farr; Diane Watson; Barbara Lee; Zoe Lofgren; Danny Davis; Henry Waxman; Corrine Brown; Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick; Raul Grijalva; James McGovern; Bernie Sanders; Lynn Woolsey; Mike Honda; and Carolyn Maloney.

5. Just call Bill Delahunts office to tell them of the petition
and who already signed it.
Jim McGovern of MA is again one step ahead!

Told them I expected to see him name on there within the
next few days.

9. I think Conyers is setting himself up for a fall.
He should concentrate on the DSM and leave this alone.

1. He is diluting his own message, even on this board. Several posts above show confusion about which petition they are signing. This is notable because we follow these things closely, unlike the general public. The public, upon becoming confused about which petition, starts to get into the "just another petition from Conyers" mentality.

2. The Rove issue will play out very soon in court. If Rove is not the person, Conyers will have the taint of spurious accusation on him. This will blunt his thrust with the DSM.

He doesn't have to demand Roves resignation or explanation when the system is currently grinding to an answer. He gains very little if it turns out to be Rove and he risks much if Rove is innocent.

12. I am not worried about him. I am worried about the perception by the public
That is what makes him relevant in the public eye. I would rather preserve his effectiveness for the DSM than gamble any of it away on something that will be determined without his help anyway.

I think he should pick his battle and save his strength for the fight that matters.

What is wrong about that? If more Congresspeople did their jobs we wouldn't have to rely on this outstanding man.

22. If more of our elected reps did their jobs the way that Conyers does
his, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today. Is Conyers the only one with balls enough to stand up to this crooked administration?

16. he's offering Rove the opportunity to explain
which is perfectly reasonable, regardless of anything that happens.

His language is measured, as it always is, he's not out on a limb with any of his projects.

17. The point was, he is confusing the point. The proof is
that even people on this board got confused.

I am not saying he isn't doing his job. I am saying he should stay on message. How many times do we here complain that an issue "falls off the page" too quickly. I would rather have the DSM hold the front page.

26. I disagree.
We shouldn't be voting for single-issue representatives. If these men and women cannot multi-task they shouldn't be in Congress. Conyers is doing his job. The question should be, why aren't the rest of them working as hard.

20. Only 17 folks? Come on Congress! How about some accountability to the US
taxpaying citizens who elected you? How about starting with every single signatory to Conyers DSM letter (122 of the House Members last I checked) and work from there...

This is serious...worse than Watergate...how do you want to be remembered?
