Bush: London attacks show need to stay on offense (Not The Onion)
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N09269668.htm

WASHINGTON, July 9 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush praised the resilience of Londoners on Saturday after deadly transit bombings and pledged to "stay on the offense" in the war on terrorism as he urged Americans to remain on alert.

"In this dark hour, the people of Great Britain can know that the American people stand with them," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

"This week, there is great suffering in the city of London. Yet the British people are resilient, and they have faced brutal enemies before," he added.

British authorities have said the attacks bear the hallmarks of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network, the Islamic militant group behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington.

1. Oh yeah
"stay on the offense"

Hey Chimp:
You are a hardheaded dullard that has zero imagination regarding the 'war'.
You are killing Iraqi civilians, our sons and daughters, and stirring more hatred worldwide that result in bombings of more innocent people.
A big FUCK YOU is in order.

2. Radio address still full of the same tired, failed rhetoric
"We will stay on the offense, fighting the terrorists abroad so we do not have to face them at home," Bush said.

snip from the above article.

I can't believe he still used that line after what just happened. They really haven't got a clue.

8. They count on the people not having a clue
Surely they know their rhetoric is hollow, pathetic and cynical, but they figure the American people will wrap themselves in the flag even tighter and trust in their "leader."

Sad to say, to a large part that is what will happen.

I hope the British press picks up on this radio addresss and decries it. The American press likely will not - but I would be most pleased to be proved wrong.

Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 09:56 AM by wake.up.america
Anybody know what Bush is talking about when he says America and its allies will not stop waging war on terror?
So, how far along are we?
When do declare victory?
How many terrorists are there? Bush must know because he says we are winning.
Does he have inclination about why these guys are pissed off to the max?
How much money is he making off this whole fiasco?

Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 02:05 PM by Amonester
None of them shall we ever hear an answer from the dumb parrot-in-chief, of course... So lemme guess.

1. I think - and I am not the only one - ** is talking about doing everything he/they can to make it last forever (thanks to Liebold&Co)

2. Farther away every day.

3. See "Mission Accomplished" (the word Victory doesn't mean the same thing for the PNAC gangsters as it does for the rest of us, honest and poor mortals).

4. The number of terralists is growing exponentially, as hoped for in the PNAC gangsters'$ plan. And again, the word we doesn't mean the same for these political bandits as it does for the rest of us, honest and poor mortals.

5. Pissed off is the exact word... (re.: Gitmo's piss on a book...)

6. Good question, but it's not just him... I'd say about half of the money he/they charge on the national credit card (cash for them now and payable bills plus interest for future taxpayers).

All 'n all, they really think we're all dumbier than them... So they keep plotting and catapulting the propaganda (fear). Hey, those off-shore accounts just love it like it is, why change the course?? No need to. "They" believe...

9. I thought we were supposed to be on the offensive so this wouldn't happen
At least that's what he said at Fort Bragg on June 28. We were taking the war to the terrorists in Iraq (oh, never mind the argument that they weren't very effective there until after he invaded) so that we wouldn't have to fight them at home.

Of course, the attack was not on an American city, but on London, the capital and largest city of a US ally.

Bush probably thinks that's what allies are for -- to take the hit for him.

Subject (revised): It's not impossible that there will be another attack on American soil

First of all, as most of us know, invading Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism and could not have made Americans or anybody else safer.

Second, in order to invade Iraq, the Bush regime had to remove resources from Afghanistan, where the terrorists were. They have regrouped.

Third, by invading Iraq, they turned the small-time punk Zarqawi into a mafia don; now he really is allied with Osama, where he wasn't before, and now Iraq really is a terrorist training ground, where it wasn't before.

Since invading Iraq, there have been major terrorist attacks in Bali, Istanbul, Riyadh, Madrid and now London. Bush does not have terrorists on the run, but they are running all over the world. His war on terrorism is a failure.

Let's all hope I'm wrong, but that there can be a terrorist attack on American soil in the near future is not unthinkable.

14. matt says
Unlike four years ago, however, I refuse to accept that the attack on London was anything less than a false-flag operation designed to enrage Western "civilization" against the Middle East. Why? Because there is no reason for "terrorist" groups to attack England. As recently as this week, the Ministry of Defense announced that plans were being drafted that would pull British armed forces from the quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the British effectively admitting they're throwing in the towel, the only motivation to stay could come from an attack that compels the forces to stay and fight "global terrorism.

15. Orwell
One sees from reading "1984" that there is now literally no difference between the mindless newspeak used to manipulate the dull general mass in the novel and the stuff they are throwing up today. The exact same obsession with Fear and the artificial creation of an Imaginary Enemy who is ubiquitos but ofcourse cannot be seen and who is responsible for all the grief of an otherwise innocent and 'civilized' society. Simply astounding. There is such enormous contempt on the part of corporate media for its listeners. And why shouldn't there be. A larger herd of domesticated farm animals has never before in history been documented. The good Germans of the 30s were not as numerous though they were as equally frightened, paranoid and bestial in their profound self-centeredness. The Roman mobs of the Collesium years are literally indistinguishable from the facist millions who digest ESPN 24 hours a day and would greedily gorge on death conflicts and animal sacrifice if only the FCC would cooperate.

I am afraid we are in for a very long, dark period. The plebians are too dull, too ignorant and far too easily manipulated and all power now rests in the Executive 'branch' and our current one party system. Spontaneous marches and protests and mass mobilizations for peace and sanity and reducation are the best and only hope. This in the tradition of Ghandi and King. This should include mass protests of the corporate media centers which are disseminating this warmongering,fear-Garbage. The youth and the educated literally need to rise up, move beyond their monitors and demonstrate until the voice for peace and sanity is heard over and over and over again. The Big Lies that have been perpetrated will take a long time to dissolve and a message of truth will not penetrate no matter the circumstances for a good while.

25. The BFEE will never release their iron grip.........
A dark cloud has descended on Western Civilization, and the sheeple are lost in the desert. Watched small slice of TUCKHEAD Carlson regarding London bombings. The Arab guy on show kept saying "look at the reason behind the bombings". Carlson was insufferable saying the acts were "despicable', but refused to question "WHY?" So long as the "MEDIA" (and the sheeple)refuse to ask "why?" these incidents will continue. Ask yourself, why are most of the foreign 'insurgents' in Iraq Saudi citizens? better yet, why not ask Bush why he hasn't invaded Saudi Arabia? This whole situation is so nasty.

Europeans remember and are aware of, even if Bush does and is not, the Baader-Meinhof Gang, the Red Brigades, the sympathetic murderous Japanese Red Army, the IRA, the Basque Separatists, etc. They remember car bombings; train, train station, and airport massacres; plane and cruise ship hijackings; kidnappings and assassinations; Munich '72.
They know there is NO WAY TO WAGE A WAR against terrorists, who live in their---and our---midst! They must be hunted down, by the Mossad, MI6, or whatever special Intelligence units a nation has.

No, WE instead ruin Britain's attempts to do just that with their Al-Qaeda cells, and a Bushco man DELIBERATELY outs a valued CIA agent.
How did we get this psychopath in the White House????????

22. Hi, Winky Dink
Welcome to the DU! :smoke:

I agree with you. There is no way to win a war against terrorists. They can strike anytime, anywhere. THEY call the shots, as millions sit in Europe and wonder when they will strike next.

I'm sure there is a lot of anxiety in Europe right now, in particular Italy and Denmark.

Bush knows his rhetoric is of a limited duration. Like a turkey sandwich in the deli section, there is an expiration date on his foolish bravado. At some point, people will start rebelling.

Bush salutes British resolve

DARLENE SUPERVILLE

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush paid tribute to the British people on Saturday, two days after deadly bombings struck London's transit system, and reiterated his pledge that the "cause of freedom will prevail" against terrorists who are trying to shake the will of the free world.

Hailing the British, survivors of the Nazi blitz, as resilient, Bush said they and Americans stood together to defeat the "murderous ideologies" of the 20th century and will do so again in the 21st.

"The terrorists cannot shake our will," the president said in his weekly radio address. "America and its allies will act decisively, because we know that the future of civilization is at stake in this struggle, and we know that the cause of freedom will prevail."

Bush was in Scotland for the annual meeting of leaders of the Group of Eight industrialized nations when bombs exploded throughout London's subway system and on a double-decker bus during the morning rush-hour Thursday, killing dozens and wounding hundreds more. A little-known group claiming links to the al-Qaida terrorist network claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Pak interrogating suspect for links with London carnage

Peshawar: Pakistani authorities are interrogating a British national, Zeeshan Siddique, suspected of having links with al Qaeda and militants in the UK, for his possible role in Thursday’s serial bomb blasts in London. Security agencies had picked up the man from near Peshawar in May.

Though Sidddique’s links with some of the militants belonging with Al Muhajiroun, a radical Muslim group in the UK, have been established, his association with the group as such has not been proved. However, the interrogators have recovered several phone numbers from his possession allegedly linking him to al Qaeda operatives, and feel he may be the missing link in the plot.

The interrogators have also recovered from him a CD containing programmes regarding circuit works, aeronautical mapping and digital simulation. He has reportedly disclosed to the interrogators, that he was a suspect in a failed plot to bomb pubs, restaurants and rail stations in London.

According to The Dawn , they are now focusing on a note in which Siddique states that one of his comrades had informed him that ‘wagon’ had now been called off. According to the paper, the reference to ‘wagon’ has prompted security officials to take a fresh look at the whole case with particular reference to the bombings in London’s underground tubes.
