Militant group threatens Shiite families with decapitation

MAHMOUDIYA, Iraq - Pamphlets slipped under doors of 22 families south of Baghdad have warned them to flee the area or they will face decapitation. The 22 families are believed to be Shiites.

The pamphlets were signed by the "Mujahedeen Brigades" and were distributed in the religiously mixed town of Youssifiyah, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Baghdad.

"This is a final warning," said the statement, obtained by The Associated Press on Saturday. "After investigations, it has been proven that you have allied yourselves with the occupiers through supplying them with information regarding the work of the resistance groups in this area and its surroundings."

The pamphlet accused the families of working for the "mercenary Badr forces," a reference to the Badr Brigade, Iraq's largest Shiite militia.

"The Mujahedeen Brigades have decided...to issue a warning that states that you must be deported outside of this area and outside of Baghdad," the document said. "If you don't heed this warning and if you ignore it and don't leave the area, then the resistance will chop off your heads wherever your are and without hesitation."

It threatened to "shell your houses" one week from now.

You would think that Sunnis and Shias, both being branches of Islam, would have more to agree on than to disagree. For the life of me, I don't understand why they hate each other so.

And I'm not picking on Islam, the same happened between Catholics and Protestants, to name just one example.

is to persuade a bunch of other countries to assist militarily. Get enough troops to seal the borders so that more terrorists don't leak into Iraq. Then make sure Baghdad is crawling to the brim with peacekeepers - like a peacekeeper on every corner. Then the U.S. can get out of there and away from the mess Bush created.
