Hurricane causes generator shortage
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=639de55e88f7db99

Big News Network.com Saturday 9th July, 2005 (UPI)

Thanks to Hurricane Dennis, not only is there an emergency generator shortage in Florida and other Gulf states, but few are available online.

Jon Hoch, founder of online generator superstore Electric Generators Direct.com -- or electricgeneratorsdirect.com -- said he still has a few dozen new generators and several hundred reconditioned generators in stock.

However, the Romeoville, Ill.-based e-tailer said he expected to sell out of his remaining inventory in the next few days.

If you're lucky enough to find a generator locally, buy it, said Hoch. If you're not, your best bet is to have one on the way than none at all.

2. Pardon me, but...
Why don't stores have plenty of generators on hand? It's not like this is the first hurricane to hit the southeast!

5. Stock on hand is money sitting there without profits.
For years now, "supply chain management" has emphasized 'just-in-time' strategies ... keep inventories low and order on demand.

4. Quick! Call China and have 'em ship more.
:eyes: Gotta love that "just in time" retail giant called Wal*Mart. ("Warehouses? We don' need no steenking warehouses!")

6. You can also use a car battery
My husband connects it to a transformer which has a electrical socket type of opening and we plug in the TV or the refrigerator, etc. The battery has to be charged at a certain point, but he says it should last quite a while (a week or more).

9. Is That A Battery Bank... Or An Automatic Generator?
Does it provide power to the WHOLE house, only certain circuits? And... my big nosey question... how much was it?
