Iraq envoy 'remarks' anger Egypt
Egypt has asked for an explanation after Iraqi officials reportedly said that the assassinated Egyptian envoy had been in touch with militants. The suggestions that Ihab al-Sherif had contacted rebels before his abduction and killing "astonished" Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. An Iraqi spokesperson had reportedly said the fact that Sherif left home without guards suggested such contacts.

Iraq separately called for urgent Arab talks on how to combat terrorism. In a phone call to express his condolences to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak over the envoy's death, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said terrorism had become a problem for most countries in the region.

He also condemned the "barbaric" killing of Sherif, who was abducted by a group identifying itself as al-Qaeda in Iraq, the feared organisation led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

'Wrong priorities'

Sherif's abduction a week ago, and death shortly afterwards, has angered many Egyptians who believe he was sent on a dangerous posting to please the United States.

The body of the ambassador is still missing

This doesn't sound so far fetched to me. Contacting the *rebels* sounds like a potentially smart (albeit dangerous) thing to do to someone who might want to actually fix things.

Where's his body?

3. Again, where's the rationale in this?
Why would AQ kill an Arab envoy? How does this benefit whatever cause they think they have there? Fighting Western imperialism, I understand that motivation. But what good do they think offing an Egyptian envoy will have in furthering their cause? Was he a threat to them in terms of stabilizing Iraq and taking the fight out of the movement?

There's so much to this Rubik's cube that mnakes no sense to me...

4. But they are evil evil evil
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 12:01 AM by warsager
animals that kill for the pure pleasure of killing. They are beasts, not humans. They are terriots. They are our enemies. To talk to them is evil.

They are not human beings with valid thoughts and feelings. They have no right to protect themselves. How dare anyone suggest that someone might actually speak to them as if they are human!

Does Egypt support Al Queda?
:nuke:

7. I'm sorry
I was being completely sarcastic.

I was just reacting to the fact that Egpyt was "shocked" at the mere suggestion of Sherif even talking to the Iraqis.

9. Its ok
The world is getting crazier and dangerous. That is the reality.
We all know why but so many just refuse to accept the hard brutal truth.
So the power that be keep getting away with all this and one day we goes Kaboom..... kill for no reason but the mere fact we rather be silent.

5. Zarqawi was trying and able to cause a split

between Egypt and Iraq. He is trying to isolate Iraq from other Arab and Western nations. Here is a good article showing the effect.

8. Is Zarqawi Sunni or Shiite or Kurd?
If the AQ insurgents are primarily Sunni, why would they kill a Sunni envoy from Egypt? Seems that would be counterproductive given their position as a minority party in Iraq.
