No plans to send more troops to Iraq: PM
July 11, 2005 - 5:34AM

Prime Minister John Howard says there are no plans to increase Australia's military presence in Iraq.

Media reports have suggested British Prime Minister Tony Blair will ask Australia to take over its military role in southern Iraq when the two leaders meet in London later this month.

Such a decision could mean up to 300 more Australian troops would be deployed to the war-torn country in addition to the 450-strong contingent in Al-Muthanna and Baghdad.

But Mr Howard says no plans currently exist to increase the nation's military presence.

"There haven't been any discussions between the Australian government or Australian defence officials about that," he told reporters.

3. we won't like it
but that won't stop him doing it. This is a man who catagorises promises as well as being an inveterate liar. He cloaked the current deployment under the guise of being asked by the Japanese government as well as by Blair.

This time the added deployment will be in response to requests by the Iraqi puppet government to help them with their democracy. Howard gets a kick out of playing with the big boys.

2. Just like "there are no plans on my desk"
"But Mr Howard says no plans currently exist to increase the nation's military presence."

It all depends on the definition of plans. I think things will get quite hot in Afghanistan for everyone, so it is quite likely the U.K. will move troops there from Iraq.

4. They can't hold it together.
They are contradicting each other publicly on real important questions like "who is going to take over in southern Iraq when the Brits leave?"

"It's you Australia!" "Oy, like hell it isnt!"
