LAPD Officers Kill Man, Baby in Standoff
LAPD Officers Kill Man, Baby in Standoff

July 11, 2005

LOS ANGELES - Police officers shot and killed a man and the young girl he was carrying Sunday night when he emerged from his home following an hours-long standoff and opened fire, wounding one officer, authorities said.

The man killed was identified as Jose Raul Lemos, and the girl, about 17 months old, was related to him, police said. The officer, who was not immediately identified, was shot in the shoulder and was expected to survive.

There were three exchanges of gunfire between police and Lemos, who was either age 34 or 35, Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell told reporters. In the final exchange, at around 6:20 p.m., Lemos held the girl as he shot.

"We did everything we could to hold our fire," McDonnell said. "We showed a tremendous amount of restraint, but unfortunately the suspect's actions dictated this. ... It's a true tragedy."

This is why I cannot personally ranged carry a weapon. I couldn't live with myself if I killed a bystander especially a kid. (Note I dont care what anyone else does with a gun am just saying for myself). I just dont know what else to say I feel so sorry for the cop and for the kid's family.

4. Cop? It was SWAT and numerous other officers that fired at the perp
and the helpless child, not one just cop.

I agree about your gun carry issue, though.

I couldn't do what these "peace officers" did and live with myself, knowing that they had the perp surrounded, that he wasnt going to do anything or go anywhere, may they all rot in Hell for what they did.

5. So the child "Blue-suicided" too, in a hail of SWAT and police bullets?
No wonder this country is in such dire straights !!!!

A police state sits right before you and you see nothing at all
with issues like these?

I always wondered why the German people couldn't see evil for what it is and now I have my answer, to my eternal dismay. :(
