Bush Cites London Blasts for War on Terror (speech today)
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 07:58 AM by leftchick

<snip>

Bush was scheduled to deliver a progress report on the war on terror in a speech Monday at the FBI training academy in Virginia. The White House said the address was planned before last week's bombings in London, but the deadly attacks give his remarks even more significance.

Bush's war against the terrorists is a major reason he won re-election last year: Americans came out of the voting booth saying they thought he would do a better job of protecting them from another attack.

It also remains his strength. Americans responded to an AP-Ipsos poll conducted last month by giving the president higher job approval ratings on terrorism than on his handling of the Iraq war, Social Security or other domestic issues.

Yet his approval numbers have slipped in recent months leading up to Monday's speech at Quantico.

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the president wanted to use the speech to talk about two strategies behind the war on terrorism. The first is a short-term plan to fight the terrorists abroad, and the second is a long-term strategy to bring freedom and prosperity to the places that produce terrorists.

1. If it's been the strong suit of his presidency, he SUCKS!
because terror attacks have increased tremendously since he's been in office.

2. He's got a new product to push -
the 9-11 model was getting a bit out of date, but the new 7-7 model does exactly what the old model did and more.

5. Up is Down, Bad is Good, Failure is Success...
I like this first sentence:
WASHINGTON - President Bush is citing the bombings on London's mass transit as fresh evidence of the need to aggressively stamp out terrorism, providing a new urgency to the cause that has been the strong suit of his presidency.

"Stamp out terrorism." Is there somebody out there saying we should ignore terrorism (other than BushCo before 9/11)? This is another strawman argument. If you don't like the BushCo fiasco, you must not want to "stamp out terrorism."

Haven't his supporters noticed that his "stamping" isn't working?

13. "to talk about two strategies behind the war on terrorism..."
Notice neither strategy involves protecting us here at home? I live on an island just across an estuary from one of the largest shipping ports in the US. Not much change in security here. This week 60 Minutes reran the story of where our Homeland Security funds are going.

Oh wait! The Minute Men are now securing our borders. So now were are safe.

BTW: Have you all put out a British flag? Remember all the US flags displayed around the world after 9/11? The British are showing their "stiff upper lip" just as they did during the WWII bombings of London. And we're shopping? I seem to recall that the then Princess Elizabeth joined the war effort. Wrong? Where are Jenna and Barbara?
