1 killed, 1 injured in crash of Army (Apache) helicopter at Fort Hood

One crew member was killed and another was injured when an Army Apache helicopter crashed while on a training flight.

The 4th Infantry Division AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopter with a two-member crew crashed about 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Fort Hood training area, just north of Lake Belton, according to a division statement.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. A III Corps accident investigation team is being formed to investigate, the statement said.

The crash is the second in eight months for the 4th Infantry, which lost a brigadier general and six other soldiers in late November when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed about 30 miles northeast of the post after hitting a television tower cable in thick fog. The soldiers were on their way to inspect repairs at the Red River Army Depot near Texarkana. The division is currently in training for redeployment to Iraq later this year.
