Rove becomes distraction for Bush early in second term

BY G. ROBERT HILLMAN

The Dallas Morning News

WASHINGTON - (KRT) - Hailed by President Bush as the architect of his re-election, Karl Rove has plunged from marquee attraction to big-time distraction.

Increasingly, revelations that the president's long-time confidante and political strategist had discussed with a reporter the role of a CIA operative have raised legal questions about his own role and stirred up a political ruckus at a critical time early in the second Bush term.

Not only are two of the president's top domestic priorities - an overhaul of Social Security and a new national energy strategy - stuck in Congress, but he's deep in a search for a new Supreme Court justice, with the prospect of yet another imminent vacancy to fill. And in Iraq, U.S. forces continue battling insurgents, with public support for the war waning at home.

....

"It's a distraction," said University of Virginia political analyst Larry Sabato. "And it's always embarrassing when the White House press secretary looks to be stonewalling. It always reminds people of Nixon."

2. awe, that's too bad. Guess it's different when the distraction is
something you don't want instead of the distractions deliberately promoted by the admin all the time huh?

I heard this distraction comment on several cable shows today. It appears the WH is upset that this is distracting from their central issues.

Boy, I tried to shed a tear, I really did, but ya know, all I could find was laughs!!!!!

9. The WH press secretary isn't stonewalling. He's flat out lying.
And it's bush who reminds us of Nixon. So glad they're using the word "stonewalling." :)
