Santorum resolute on Boston rebuke, Insists liberalism set stage for abuse
WASHINGTON -- Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, the third-ranking Republican in the Senate, refused yesterday to back off on his earlier statements connecting Boston's ''liberalism" with the Roman Catholic Church pedophile scandal, saying that the city's ''sexual license" and ''sexual freedom" nurtured an environment where sexual abuse would occur.
...
''I was just saying that there's an attitude that is very open to sexual freedom that is more predominant" in Boston, Santorum said yesterday. Reminded that the sexual abuse occurred across the country, Santorum said that ''at the time , there was an indication that there was more of a problem there" in Boston.

The senator's words sparked instant reaction from Massachusetts political leaders, who ridiculed Santorum's suggestion that priests were driven to abuse children by the city's liberal culture.

US Representative Barney Frank, a Newton Democrat, called Santorum ''a jerk" and pointed out that the senator tried to use the levers of the federal government to block the removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, an act that Santorum likened to ''execution." An autopsy found that Schiavo's brain was half the normal size and that she could not see anything.

''This is one of those people who claims to have had eye contact with a blind woman," Frank said.

14. He did, and has a picture of the fetus on his desk. Gabriel.
His wife had a pregnancy a few years ago, the doctors discovered the fetus was deformed and couldn't possibly live, it spontaneously aborted at about 5 or 6 months. They refused to abort it, the fetus was "born," breathed a little, and died immediately. They named it, then took the dead fetus home so his two other kids who were about 5 and 8 at the time could hold it and get to know their brother. he has a picture of it on his desk in the Senate. He considers it his third child.

His wife writes letters to it every day (addressed to heaven, of course).

15. Let's Follow the Reasoning:
1. Boston is liberal.
2. Catholic Church is extremely conservative: supports assholes like Santorum, threatened Galileo for his science that earth revolves around the sun, and on and on
3. Catholic priests are more closely connected to conservative institution (the Church) than area where they live
4. Catholic priests are indoctrinated from birth about conservative views of Church, and join its priesthood

Santorum's view: liberalism is so strong in its evil that it is able to turn these conservative life view priests into liberal child molestors.

It boggles the mind.

Jeebus. That's why I say, no matter who in the hell they are. No matter how "moderate" people may think they are. There should be NO REPUKE SENATORS IN ANY BLUE STATES. Santorum, Spectre, Snowe, Chaffe, Collins, etc., The whole lot of them have to go.

I suggest that old "Ricky boy" take a visit to some "red-state" areas of morality and virtue, like Orange Blosson Trail in Orlando, FL; Biloxi, MS; Euclid and 22ND in Cleveland, OH, and see what real decadence is all about.

This is the same kind of asshole that blames 9/11 and "effing" hurricanes on "godless liberal Amurika". Guess God must be pretty fucking fed up with Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas right now.

18. maybe it is the Catholic RELIGION that is the cause of it....
cuz if the problem is catholic priests who are practicing and promoting the catholic religion under the direction of a catholic pope in catholic churches, blaming outside forces is kind of a distraction. that is at least as likely a cause as "liberalism" in the society outside the closed confines of a religious orderof any persuasion.

34. Bottom line,, these are priests making decisions to have a sexual
interaction with children,, often abusing their authority in order to cow the children into submission.

Is this a social fault?

Yes insanetorums rant about liberal Boston is clearly a diversion but nowadays demonizing liberals is in vogue. Blame them for everything. Tar and feather the liberal dogs.

Liberals, progressives, whatever you want to call yourself,,, stand up to these smear tactics. There is no way out of it. You need to get mad and learn when to duck and when to shoot back.

Just be smart about it and remember the long view.

23. Wow. Abject stupidity plus phony moralizing. That's a powerful thing.
Disgusting, baffling, but powerful. Add his history of absolutely shocking hypocrisy, and you have to wonder whether there's any hope for someone like that.

The answer is flat-out "no." He's a perfect example of why "reaching across the aisle" or "appealing to red voters" is just about utterly pointless.

It takes a family? It takes a family to have a loved one committed to an insane asylum. Let's hope there's someone out there who cares enough to get him the help he so clearly needs.

The man is a danger, probably to himself but assuredly to our country, so longs as he holds such a powerful position in our government.

But most of all, they hate us for their own sick behaviors and mindsets that, unable to control within themselves, they attempt to project onto us.

Dear Governor Romney:

While you may have checked out of Massachusetts for other opportunities, you are still, technically, our governor. As such, I find it imperative that you demand a formal apology from PA Senator Rick Santorum.

His comments that our "culture of Liberalism" fostered the Catholic molestation scandal is cruel and untrue. He is smearing the people of this state, and making light of the hundreds of children who were brutalized by these thugs, for political gain.

The people of Massachusetts will not stand for this, and expect you to respond in kind.

Hey GODALMIGHTY! How you been? What are you doing here on this message board? Don't you have to watch over humanity, control the weather, and strike down the sinners and heathens? I guess Omnipotence has it's advantages, eh?

Anywhoo.....I think you have a point that "people go where its safe(,) its instinct"....I guess that's true. Which explains why the racists and rednecks tend to flock to certain parts of the country, and of course the strip clubs and divorce rates tend to be more numerous in places like Texas then good old "Liberal" Massachusetts. (When did Massachusetts become so Liberal anyway? When was the last time any "Liberal" referendum vote actually passed here? I know we allow Gays to marry now because the courts decided it was in violation of our State Constitution to do so, but a similar ruling also took place in Nebraska when a Republican judge ruled that a anti gay marriage law was also in violation of their states Constitution, and yet I never hear people refer to "Liberal" Nebraska. I digress) My point is maybe it has to a little more with the concentration of Catholic churches in the Northeast then them nasty Liberals at Harvard.

I guess it makes sense though if you think like Santorum does. After all, if a woman with a liquified brain just needs speech therapy, or invading a country whose Secular leader, while crazy, would have nothing to do with crazy Islamic radicals, I guess I can see how a leap and logic might make you conclude that Sexual abuse is caused by Liberals. Everyone just nees to learn how to think like a wingnut
