White House urges another vote on Bolton
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Despite two failed attempts, the White House on Wednesday said it wanted the Senate to vote again to try to win confirmation of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

But Republican and Democratic senators said the stalemate continued on Bolton's nomination over demands from Democrats that the White House provide information they said would shed more light on his suitability for the job.

The nomination of the blunt-spoken conservative has been held up by accusations he tried to manipulate intelligence and intimidated intelligence analysts to support his hawkish views in his post as the top U.S. diplomat for arms control.

"We continue to believe that John Bolton should have an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate. That remains our position," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

If that fails, McClellan declined to say whether Bush would favor bypassing the Senate with a presidential appointment while Congress takes its August recess.

3. What part of "NO" do these jacks have a hard time with?
"Norm Kurz, spokesman for Joseph Biden of Delaware, top Senate Foreign Relations Committee Democrat, said the Senate could quickly move to an up or down vote on Bolton if the White House turned over the requested information.

The White House has refused to turn over the material which it said was highly classified and concerned internal deliberations not relevant to Bolton's nomination. (Additional reporting by Adam Entous and Evelyn Leopold at the United Nations)"

"" Wilson On Today: It's All About Iraq
by Michael in New York - 7/14/2005 10:45:00 AM

Perhaps the best part of "Today's" interview with Ambassador Joe Wilson? His emphasis on a conspiracy and the lies the White House peddled to sell the war in Iraq. Some people fear Rove is a "distraction" from the DSM et al. But Wilson reminds us that this is why they attacked him in the first place.

Wilson emphasized that this is about the war in Iraq and the lies the White House used to sell that war. Tony Blair offered up shoddily forged documents claiming the weak and enfeebled Hussein was trying to buy radioactive material in Africa. Bush sent Joe Wilson to check it out. Joe Wilson came back and said it wasn't true -- the evidence didn't hold up. Bush didn't like that answer so they sent someone else to investigate. They came back and said the same thing: the proof isn't there. Bush STILL didn't like that answer so they sent someone else. Three separate investigations and all three said the same thing: no go.

But Bush lied anyway. In his State of the Union address leading up to the war, Bush stated flatly in 16 fatal words that Hussein had gone to Africa to buy radioactive material. Wilson was astonished and finally decided to come forward and speak out publicly -- the very thing the far right just excoriated Deep Throat for not doing. Wilson knew it meant they would attack and smear him but he came forward anyway. Those 16 words -- that lie -- became the focus of intense debate and ultimately Joe Wilson was vindicated: the White House admitted it didn't have the proof to back up that claim. According to the Bush Administration, Joe Wilson was right and they were wrong.....""

Will they finally realize this ain't going to work? He's caught up in it, crashcart, and scooter are in it. I just wonder what they think is going to happen?
These bastards are stunningly incapable of changing with the times, or even recognizing that they're so out of step.

19. Why BOTHER...he will be a recess appointment so why should
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 11:24 AM by mtnester
ANYONE in DC waste any more time on how bad he is? We should now be gearing up for the TEAR DOWN of the administration for appointing someone so blatantly unqualified, and looky, even the REPUBLICAN MAJORITY would not approve his ass.

Step away senate and house members, let the dickhead appoint him because it will be bad for him, and the UN won't work with the guy, so let's get ready to pummel GW for sneaking him in.

22. remember Bolton bugged El Baradei's office....I think he's the leak
ElBaradei was secretly wiretapped as part of an effort by State Department official John Bolton to force his removal as head of the atomic monitoring agency. The putsch failed when no other country would go along. No matter. Bush wants to promote Bolton to U.N. ambassador.

The president condones skulduggery against the leaders of international institutions who answer to the world, not to him.
