NYT: Data Shows Faster-Rising Death Toll Among Iraqi Civilians
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/14/international/middleeast/14casualties.html?ei=5094&en=99f42ed3e2228762&hp=&ex=1121313600&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print

Iraqi civilians and police officers died at a rate of more than 800 a month between August and May, according to figures released in June by the Interior Ministry.

In response to questions from The New York Times, the ministry said that 8,175 Iraqis were killed by insurgents in the 10 months that ended May 31. The ministry did not give detailed figures for the months before August 2004, nor did it provide a breakdown of the figures, which do not include either Iraqi soldiers or civilians killed during American military operations.

While the figures were not broken down month by month, it has been clear since the government of Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari took over after the Jan. 30 election that the insurgency is taking an increasing toll, killing Iraqi civilians and security workers at a faster rate.

In June the interior minister, Bayan Jabr, told reporters that insurgents had killed about 12,000 Iraqis since the start of the American occupation - a figure officials have emphasized is approximate - an average monthly toll of about 500.

The issue of civilian deaths in Iraqi has been a delicate one, with some contending that the Bush administration and the Pentagon have deliberately avoided body counts to deprive their critics of a potent argument against the war. Estimates have ranged from the 12,000 offered by Mr. Jabr to as many as 100,000 in a widely reported study last year. The new figures are likely to add to that debate.

2. cut and run away now.
I tell you, we are NOT helping. The more we 'help' the more we f**k up the place. The best for all parties, I am convinced, is for us to leave. Now.

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..... No one outside of US can stop this without a major World War.
So every Goverments in the World and even the UN is helpless in this mess.
But the scream of children, innocents who die is heard worldwide.
What does it take to have this madness end.... another Haroshima?

Yeah I see a couple of posts about the possibility of nuke being use by terrorist to get back at the US.

The question is not about wheather they will..... sadly its more of do they have it.

Evil begets more Evil. The US people has a choice to continue down this road. Or to stop all this evil being commited in their name.

This is not Vietnam. This is worst.

Where does this journey end?
When will it end?
What has to happen to US before it end?
It is too late?

Mr Bush what will you tell the American people if ever this nightmare come true. A NUKE EXPLODING IN A US CITY.

Do you want to hear what he had to say?

STOP THIS MADNESS FOR HEAVEN SAKE.

Look for Annual Report in the lower right; I can't get it to link.

Most of the fighting is in urban areas. If you read no more of the ICRC's report, please just read the first page.

Report: civilian deaths in Iraq far exceed those of military and police
02:38 PM EDT Jul 14

BAGHDAD (AP) - Violent deaths among Iraqi civilians far exceeded those of soldiers or police in the first six months of this year, according to figures obtained Thursday from separate Iraqi government ministries.

Between Jan. 1 and June 30, 1,594 civilians were killed, according to the Ministry of Health. Civilians often bear the brunt of car-bombings and suicide attacks. Many have also been killed in attacks by Iraqi and U.S. forces.

By contrast, a total of 895 security forces - 275 Iraqi soldiers and 620 police - were killed in bombings, assassinations or armed clashes with insurgents, according to figures from the interior and defence ministries.

The civilian and security forces deaths total 2,489. The number of insurgents killed during that six-month period was 781, the government said.

9. Nominate
The death toll in Iraq over the last 14 years at the hands of America is in the millions. That includes the Clinton years. Isn't that right Madeleine "I think it's worth it" Albright?

10. The math just ain't adding up......
They've lost more civilians in the last 6 months then we have lost total soldiers in the entire occupation. This is fucking sickening. And yet "Progress is being made".

However on the same token, when you are at rock bottom, there is only one direction to go...
