Iran could be behind Israel bomb blast: Rumsfeld
Of course, he would know this.

WASHINGTON: Iran could be behind the suicide attack at a shopping mall in Israel that killed at least four and injured dozens, US Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld said Tuesday.

“I wouldn’t want to suggest that I know about the attack today, but clearly that’s been one of the stated and continuous purposes of Iran, to harm Israel,” said Rumsfeld, speaking at a press conference with his Italian counterpart Antonio Martino.

“We know that Iran has been on the terrorist list. We know that Iran has been assisting Hezbollah and other organisations and moving equipment and people down through Damascus into Beirut and down into positions where they can attack Israel for years and years and years and years,” he said.

14. provocateur
The US has been a prolific provocateur. None of this should be trusted, and given the gravity of the suspicion no credence should be lent to anything the warhawks say.

If we don't get shafted by a (second?) coup d'etat, we very seriously need to investigate and publicly disclose what's been done clandestinely.

23. It could be true
But, it could be true it was funded by a number of places. The people behind this bombing were the Islamic Jihad. Of course, Iran is not the only 'group' that have constantly brayed for the destruction of Israel, so who knows. The point is that more innocents were killed.

26. And Condi pipes up with her "time for discipline" routine...
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice described the event as a terrorist attack “against the Israeli people,” as well as “a direct attack against the aspirations of the Palestinian people.

“The Palestinian leadership has been clear in condemning the attack and now we must see actions that send a message that terror will not be tolerated,” she said in a statement.

“It is also essential that the Syrian government end its support for terrorist organisations, particularly those which are headquartered and harbored in Damascus such as the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“Syria should immediately stop letting its territory be used for insurgent activities and for activities which frustrate the aspirations of the Lebanese, Iraqi, and Palestinian people,” she said.

27. These neocon pukes never get off their script, no matter what!
Let's just do their entire talking points for them, shall we? They would go something like this:

Iran, Syria, Hamas, Hizbollah, Castro, and Chavez are all behind the bombing, and they have the support of Kerry, Hillary, Dean, and MoveOn.

The sad part is that millions of Americans will just eat that shit up!

33. Oh no. This mumbo jumbo ain't nothing like the mojo leading to Iraq
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 04:07 PM by donkeyotay
In that case our leader was clear and logical as to why we had to shed our blood and treasure. Here's a taste in case you've forgotten, taken from the Q and A session at a Blair/Bush press conference in Crawford in 2002:

Question: ...I think what Europeans have a problem with about expanding any war on terror to Iraq is linkage. They can see a linkage between al Qaeda and Afghanistan. They can't see a direct linkage to Saddam Hussein. Would you accept that there isn't a direct linkage and how, therefore --

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, I wouldn't accept that. But can't they see linkage between somebody who's willing to murder his own people and the danger of him possessing weapons of mass destruction, which he said he would not develop? I see the linkage between somebody who is willing to go into his own neighborhood and use chemical weapons in order to keep himself in power, and at the same time develop a weapon that could be aimed at Europe, aimed at Israel, aimed anywhere, in order to affect foreign policy through his -- you know, I can't imagine people not seeing the threat and not holding Saddam Hussein accountable for what he said he would do, and we're going to do that.

History has called us into action. The thing I admire about this Prime Minister is he doesn't need a poll or a focus group to convince him the difference between right and wrong. And it's refreshing to see leaders speak with moral clarity when it comes to the defense of freedom.

I intend to speak with clarity when it comes to freedom, and I know Prime Minister Tony Blair does, as well. And we will hold Saddam Hussein accountable for broken promises. And that's what a lot of our discussion over there on Prairie Chapel Ranch has been about. And, other than eating lunch, which we're fixing to go do, we're going to continue our discussions.

Question: Thank you. Mr. President, you have yet to build an international coalition for military action against Iraq. Has the violence in the Middle East thwarted your efforts? And Prime Minister Blair, has Bush convinced you on the need for a military action against Iraq?

THE PRESIDENT: Adam, the Prime Minister and I, of course, talked about Iraq. We both recognize the danger of a man who's willing to kill his own people harboring and developing weapons of mass destruction. This guy, Saddam Hussein, is a leader who gasses his own people, goes after people in his own neighborhood with weapons of -- chemical weapons. He's a man who obviously has something to hide.

He told the world that he would show us that he would not develop weapons of mass destruction and yet, over the past decade, he has refused to do so. And the Prime Minister and I both agree that he needs to prove that he isn't developing weapons of mass destruction.

I explained to the Prime Minister that the policy of my government is the removal of Saddam and that all options are on the table.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/04/20020406-3.html

See, so there's nothing to worry about. Rummy may be waving his hands and going "somewhere east and west and north and up my yin yang" but we only go to war based on thoughtful, logical reasons like the President gave in the lead up to his war in Iraq. Boy, good thing the president got to fall back on that mushroom cloud thing. I'm not sure even the Murcan people would have fallen for this.
