UP TO 40% OF IRAQ FORCES DEEMED CAPABLE

WASHINGTON -- In what was termed a significant achievement, up to 40 percent of Iraqi security forces have been deemed as combat capable.

The Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies said in a report that despite setbacks and an insurgency campaign, Iraq's military and security forces have achieved significant progress over the last year. The report, authored by senior fellow Anthony Cordesman, said Iraq's special forces units were deemed the most capable in the armed forces.

As of mid-June 2005, the report said, about 40 percent of the special forces police units and 20 percent of army units were rated "capable." The report said none of the special units were rated "fully capable."

15. I would hope that "U.S. soldiers" who were ordered to fire upon us
during an illegal occupation by an incredibly aggressive and dangerous foreign power, would do precisely the same thing.

11. EXACTLY!! 40% = 4 of the 10 total?
And how do they define "capable"? I shudder to think about what tactics we're teaching/allowing.

6. 40% of how many?
Did I miss it? I don't see a number in there.
40% of those that have been trained?
40% of the total we expect they will need?

Does this mean we get to bring 40% of our guys home?

So we have 40% of SF, 20% of army are "capable", NONE of the special units are "fully capable", and this amounts to: "UP TO 40% OF IRAQ FORCES DEEMED CAPABLE". Which could just as well be "NONE OF IRAQI SPECIAL FORCES RATED FULLY CAPABLE, ONLY 20% OF IRAQI FORCES RATED
CAPABLE." In other words, the headline is misleading bullshit.

14. why can't they give us the # of troops capable instead of a %
and how many do they think they will need to begin withdrawing forces.

this drives me crazy that they do not come out with any real #s.

percentages are horsesh*t without knowing the #'s they are based on.
