Bush: I've Made Opportunities for Blacks
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
4 minutes ago

INDIANAPOLIS - President Bush argued Thursday that he has built a government that expands opportunities for black Americans as he tried to win more Republican votes from one of the most reliably Democratic groups.

Bush told the Indiana Black Expo that he believes in an America where all people, including blacks, have the chance to own homes and businesses and share in the country's prosperity. He also took credit for narrowing the gap in test scores between black and white elementary school students, according to test results released Thursday by his Education Department.

"I see an America where every citizen owns a stake in the future of our country and where a growing economy creates jobs and opportunity for everyone," the president said, his voice echoing in the cavernous RCA Dome, where more than 3,000 people packed luncheon tables on the floor below empty stands.

Bush appeared in Indianapolis instead of attending the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's national convention, which he has avoided since taking office. The White House said again that he couldn't attend because of a scheduling conflict.

57. Exactly! In our local rag, the Indianapolis star, alongside his picture in
the paper was a photo of a nice looking black man and a story about how in the Marion County(Indianapolis) area, affluence in the black community had soared. I thought what the hell? That was the meat of the headline but if you actually read the article, it seems they were talking about the time frame from 1990-2000. That damn liberal media!

13. Republicans need lies. They justify their acts. Keep a "clean" conscience.
To convince themselves. I have noticed this lately.
I use my forest metaphor again. Here's how they convince themselves that it's ok to do what they do-
It's not a forest. It's a tree farm.
The trees are "mature".
They grow back.
Now these things are true, but...
This gives them liberty to execute large tracts of trees. And make money doing it.

Most people don't live in metro areas. Most live in Green Acres land. Most believe what their leader tells them. Therefore, most are happy with things. These rednecks believe that blacks are doing better, and will spout this as their new truth. And since they are too lazy to do their own research, and since the media is too greedy to be honest, this false claim will serve as the truth.

Getting back to the trees- It's not really a tree farm, it's our planet, and means of survival. And they don't grow back. Not like they should. And while they're gone, we are losing valuable biological actions. And they are not "mature". Mature is not something loggers are financially willing to wait for. They call 12 inch diameter trees "mature". Mature is four feet. Old growth is 8 feet. But who's going to wait 200 years, when they can lie to themselves and justify making money now?

Specious 'justification' on the basis if lies and deceit is FRAUD, not justification.

24. Yes. But to them, it's justification.
I always wonder if these boneheads never feel the slightest twinge of "something" when they turn around and walk out of a forest they just cut down, and all they can see is disaster around them. No. They've used their little lies to "justify" it, for lack of having a better vocabulary.
The war is the same way. A man who just built cabinets for me (yes, I know, I used wood, god forbid), said this- "Bush has to keep those unruly Arabs under control." Sigh. Nothing can ever change their mindset, except to have the bombs dropping on our own soil, until they are destroyed, and humilated. Then, and only then, will America come to it's senses. Arrogance really sucks.

Ok, I'll just go do what I do best. And it isn't this kind of stuff. You guys are brilliant. And I can't stay away. I love being around people who have brains. Thanks!

Wonder if he patted a couple of black people on the head as he said it. He could have added that some of his friends are black, and that he even dated a black woman, except everyone would know who he meant, and then he'd have other questions to answer.

Condescending prick. Maybe forty years ago that was the speech that needed to be made. The problems are far more complicated now.

26. I'm African American and I'm Thrilled I WAS NOT There

I am sure that I would have stood up and called him a racist and a fool!

Every statement that he made was a "talk down to you and make you understand what the great White father decides is best for you."

That crap about NCLB was horrible. How can he stand there and say that he has made progress in our schools! Has he been to a Urban school lately?

His daughter was suppose to teach in one and she must not have qualified. Maybe she needs to take the NCLB tests.

I know that I wrote a long letter to the Principal of the Charter school that they were claiming Jenna would be working in starting this year.

I even called the school and reminded them that "our African American children(or any children for that matter) did not deserve to have a TRAMP and BAR TRASH for a teacher." That was right after Jenna stuck her tongue out at the Reporters.

He was speaking to a carefully chosen group, he would not dare give that speech in front of the NAACP!

These were business "wantabees" that the Rethugs probably gave $1000 a piece to in order to start their own businesses.

I am steaming, just steaming!

63. I Suffered Through A Little Bit Of That Speech On C-SPAN
Unfortunately, I had to encounter this from prez:

And there's more we can do. We're going to provide down payment assistance for families; counseling for new home buyers. I don't know if you've ever seen one of those contracts, but the print is really small. We need to help people. Perhaps a good project for Black Expo is to join with Alphonso Jackson and the Housing of Urban Development to help people understand what's in the print so it doesn't -- that small print doesn't frighten them off from becoming a first-time home buyer.

Oh, you know us mah-nor-uh-tees it's not for lack of capital or access to homes that's keeping us from owning homes, we'se skeered of them small prints. That's when I decided I saw enough.

The moron in the WH has one hell of a nerve touting the "opportunities" he's creating for black people when they continue to be the "help" at party functions.

And amazing how "scheduling conflicts" continue to get in the way of his attendance at an NAACP convention. The truth, of course, is that his ass would be booed so loud and long he'd flee in tears.

52. Full Employment for African Americans
If Bush is allowed to pick two or more Supreme Court Justices, continue to retain a GOP majority in Congress in 2006, then he will be able to provide full employment for African Americans.

* He will have Delay introduce a bill dictating that Slavery is a full employment benefit; that address working condition, health care, and pension issues for African Americans. By default taking care of the Social Security concerns of African-Ameican men - as indicated by the Administration, Blacks men are punished because they tend to die before on average before their 62 years of age.

* If challenged, he will then have the Supreme Court determine that State Rights are more important than the preservation of the nation; ergo, the Civil War was an illegal war where an oppressive majority imposed their will on an oppressed minority. Followed of course by civil penalties against the Blue States.

* Clarence Thomas will write the opinion for the majority prior to rendering himself fit as a slave to Scalia.

56. Here's one guy who lowered himself enough to attend the NAACP meeting
The excellent Julian Bond. I also located a photo of him from 1966, just to refresh my own memory of his earlier image:

60. Bush and Blacks
Yeah...reading his remarks reminds me of the scene from Airplane two where you had the scene with President Reagan have some photographers taking his picture shaking two black hands...and the hands are just fake dummy arms.

If Bush and the Republicans want to have any credibility with black people, they had better start implementing some policies that actually help blacks (and not just by donating money to churches or promising to inject resources into schools and then not following through). While blacks may not be super happy with everything the Democrats do, at least they get a seat at the table, which is certainly not the case with the Republican party.

62. Blacks earn their own opportunities
The best Bush could do is to ease the path, and that's hard to believe considering how few jobs there are out there.

67. Re: 'Booming Economy'
Notice how Dubya never mentions the fact that the only part of the US economy that's booming is that of the private sector. He never talks about public economic growth. Why? Because there is none!
