Support for bin Laden falls in Muslim countries
14 Jul 2005 18:03:14 GMT

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, July 14 (Reuters) - Support for Osama bin Laden and suicide bombings have fallen sharply in much of the Muslim world, according to a multicountry poll released on Thursday.

The survey by the Pew Research Center examined public opinion in six predominantly Muslim nations: Morocco, Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, Jordan and Lebanon. It also examined views in nine North American and European countries as well as in India and China. In all, more than 17,000 people were questioned either by telephone of face-to-face.

"There's declining support for terrorism in the Muslim countries and support for Osama bin Laden is declining. There's also less support for suicide bombings," said Pew Center director Andrew Kohut.

"This is good news, but still there are substantial numbers who support bin Laden in some of these countries," he told a news conference.

4. Call me a skeptic, but something is fishy here
I have some doubts about whether or not the average Muslim who would be inclined to follow bin Laden would answer questions from the Pew Research Center. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good news if it's true. I'm just taking it with a large grain of salt.

8. He doesn't need very many supporters to be effective.
It isn't like he is running for elected office.

12. Maybe they're realizing he's in some kind of bizarre cahoots with the BFEE
Maybe they're aware of the remarkable coinky-dinks of Osama appearing in the news precisely when bush needs him most.

14. It might be good if everyone knew who founded the Pew Research.....
...Center:

The Pew Charitable Trusts
<http://www.pewtrusts.org/about/about_subpage.cfm?page=a4>

QUOTE:

"A public charity, The Pew Charitable Trusts is the sole beneficiary of seven individual charitable funds established between 1948 and 1979 by two sons and two daughters of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew and his wife, Mary Anderson Pew.

What is today The Pew Charitable Trusts began in 1948 with the creation of The Pew Memorial Foundation. The four founders -- J.N. Pew Jr., J. Howard Pew, Mary Ethel Pew and Mabel Pew Myrin -- chose to honor their parents' memory by establishing a foundation that would contribute to the public's health and welfare and strengthen the communities in which we live. The founders capitalized the foundation with shares of Sun Oil Company stock, and gathered for the first board meeting on April 3, 1948."

Founded by the descendants of the founder of Sun Oil Company.
Enough said.

17. i think most muslims don't support bin laden
they may find the war in iraq reprehensible, but they won't turn to a terrorist exile for support in my opinion.
