Protesters Kept Well Away From President

President Bush got bad reviews from some folks before he even took the podium Thursday.

About a dozen protestors picketed along Capitol Avenue, chanting and yelling out anti-war slogans. For the most part, they were orderly and abided by security restrictions. They were far removed from the president and ticketholders, but they definitely came with a message about the conflict in Iraq.

"I'm here today to protest George Bush's policies in Iraq and his domestic policies here. The way he's denied the people the basic right to know what our government is doing - he's more secretive than the Nixon White House, which obviously shows he's got something to hide,” said Anna Estes.

"We're losing quite a few. The report we got is over 9,000 Americans have been killed. We're only getting reports that there have been 1,800. We're concerned about the ones who are joining the mercenaries and they're coming back in bodybags,” said Daudabdur Rhman.
