Hurricane Emily now Category 4 - CNN
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 01:50 AM by No DUplicitous DUpe
(CNN) -- Hurricane Emily was upgraded early Friday to a Category 4 hurricane as it churned across the Caribbean Sea toward the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, and forecasters warned some additional strengthening is possible before it makes landfall.

Hurricane Emily's eye is clearly visible in this satellite image, taken as the storm churned across the Caribbean at 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

3. thank you global warming
Probably one of the biggest embarrassments of being an American
is the lack of action and the urgency needed to move on reversing
global warming.

We also have fecal matter coming on the Oregon coast beaches.

16. reverse?
Supposedly this is supposed to continue getting worse for something like a century even if industrial greenhouse gas emissions go to zero immediately.

OK Texans, we know what to do here. Plywood, bottled water, flashlights, batteries, weather radio, the works.

6. Looks like it will wreck a lot of offshore drilling platforms, heh?
Not to mention TX refineries on the coast.

Look for the price of oil to skyrocket in the next few days...

7. They evacuate the rigs
Most of them are designed to withstand quite a bit, but I don't know how much. We've gotten a ton of rain the last couple of days, Houston is already flooded. We don't need this now.

18. That is such a stupid track path just for ratings.
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 07:41 AM by Rockholm
The National Weather Service is barely even have the storm making Texas. The blue possible path is done by AccuWeather, who remember, hates the National Weather Service. They are one of the parties that are trying to limit what we see and make their version of the weather the "official" version.
If you want GOOD weather, go to www.weatherunderground.com

20. Hooray for Weather Underground!
My boss' significant other is one of the founders of that website. He is a really cool guy and I recommend paying the $5/year for no ads and faster radar! They are a great company and they do a lot to support the nonprofit I work for.

Just a little plug ;)

12. Likely to weaken before landfall, just like Dennis did, due to the
relatively cold (compared to say, Sept) water. Hurricanes feed off of warm water, and churn up water as they go by bringing the cool water to the surface. If there's a thick layer of warm water, then look out! But with only some surface warmth, they'll actually cool themselves off a bit pulling up that colder stuff beneath. So even tho she COULD go to Cat 5 before then, she'll still drop to a cat 2 or 3 before landfall.

Hope that's the case before TX or the Yucatan get slammed!
