Christian Conservatives Will Take Aim at Supreme Court in New Telecast

WASHINGTON, July 14 - Stepping up efforts to rally churchgoers for a Supreme Court confirmation battle, Christian conservatives are organizing a telecast to churches and religious broadcasters denouncing the Supreme Court as hostile to religion and families.

The event, scheduled for Aug. 14 and called Justice Sunday II after a similar telecast in April, will focus on "the court's hostility toward religion and Christianity in particular," said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council and the principal organizer of the event. Its subtitle is a prayer said each time the court meets: "God save the United States and this Honorable Court."

...Scheduled speakers in the telecast include James C. Dobson, the influential founder of Focus on the Family; former Senator Zell Miller, Democrat of Georgia; Charles W. Colson, the former Watergate figure and the founder of an evangelical group, Prison Fellowship; the veteran Christian conservative organizer Phyllis Schlafly; and William Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. Mr. Perkins said the organizers planned to include a Jewish speaker as well.

He certainly does even try to pretend anymore - he's just an outright right-winger.

Is he going to challenge the justices to a duel? Or perhaps attack them with spit balls?

Why do these reports refer to the Watergate convicts as "figures"? Folks should be apprised of the criminal backgrounds of public speakers, eh? Wasn'the convicted of a Watergate related crime?

appears to be hostile toward government rules and order, and toward the US democracy and justice system in particular. This hostility is compounded by some religious zealots' willingness to publically slander one who dares to enforce our laws and our constitution if by doing so they "offend" the zealots. Affirmative action for christian zealots. Bush would call it affirmative access.

This religous correctness test for justices is out of control. If the extremists have their way, many Americans, especially those in public service, of minority religions or those who are insufficiently christian, will soon be wearing colored patches on their sleeves so evangelizers know whom to target. Will the disfavored SCOTUS justices be given only 1/3 of the voting weight of their christian colleaques? Think about this. The trend toward christian cult-like power in our government, state and federal, is not a slippery slope. It's a greasy cliff. IMHO.
