‘I Am Addicted to Prescription Pain Medication' [NEWSWEEK SLAMS RUSH]
What a fabulous article on "the wizard of oz." I love it!

http://www.msnbc.com/news/979355.asp

<snip>
Journalists who have spent time with Limbaugh have been struck by the contrast between Rush the Radio Know-It-All and the private, ill-at-ease Limbaugh. “It was almost as if every step away from the studio, he grew smaller and less confident, shrinking with each step into the real-life Rush Limbaugh,” Randall Bloomquist, an editor at Radio & Records newspaper, told the Los Angeles Times in 1995. New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd spent a revealing dinner date with Limbaugh in 1993. “What I do in my off time has nothing to do with what I am,” he told Dowd. “I don’t go to movies. I’ve been to a couple of plays. I basically work. I don’t watch television. I watch the news and the N.F.L.; that’s it.” Dowd recounted this mournful snippet of conversation:  “ ‘What’s your idea of an ideal day?’ ‘I don’t have an ideal day,’ he replied, glumly. ‘Well, what if a good friend came into town one Saturday, what would you do?’ ‘When I have someone coming into town for the weekend, I get stressed out on Tuesday thinking about it’.” Limbaugh went on to say that he hates walking, hates window-shopping and likes New York mainly because you can order in.

 Limbaugh’s own mother remarked on his somewhat passive-aggressive reticence as a child. Little Rush was “very quiet,” his mother, Millie, told the Southeast Missourian, a newspaper. At Halloween, “he really didn’t care much for trick or treating. He would rather stay at home. I found he was upstairs and he’d have water balloons. Sometimes when the little children would leave, he would drop them down.” Limbaugh’s best friend in high school, Craig Valle, told Peter Boyer for a May 1992 Vanity Fair article, “You would find him in his dark bedroom playing with his tape recorder and radio.”

<snip>
 Limbaugh lasted only a year in college. He jokes that he flunked Public Speaking. Actually, he got a “D,” his speaking teacher, Dr. Bill Stacy, told NEWSWEEK. Limbaugh’s father maneuvered him into the communications class, hoping his son would like it enough to stay in college and eventually become a lawyer. Limbaugh was more interested in riffing off the top of his head. “You need to make an outline. You need some data to support your assertions,” Stacy told young Limbaugh. “Frankly, he wouldn’t do those things.”
<snip>
Limbaugh’s long-running act as a paragon of virtue is over. Now the question is whether he can make a virtue out of honesty.

PRESS: Matt Drudge just about out of time, I've got to jump in. You mentioned Rush believes. One of his beliefs he's stated over and over again as anybody into drugs, anybody into drug use anybody into drug sales, the harshest treatment send them up the river Rush says. After this experience do you think he might have a little softer more liberal attitude about people who get hooked on drugs?

DRUDGE: I think he is being sent up the river and I think we'll see him paddle back down. On this, there's no law against being a hypocrite a few times in your life. And this industry is built on hypocrisy! Like I said I'm challenging the media tonight to empty their pockets!
<snip>

uhh, excuuuse me, drudge, but howabout you just empty out your own pockets? right here, right now...

21. "no law against being a hypocrite"

Well, some truth from the media fammily ...and from one of it's finest sons.
</sarcasm>

Rush is now a proven hyppocrte as opposed to a being a known hyppocrte. The former requires proof (something that he never put on the table when he was damming others in his particular judgement of them) and the latter relies upon opinion (something that he had just as much of as he had oxycontin ...which is just as addictive in large doses).

So yes media...Matt, please come clean on how you have turned into a provable heap of parrot droppings. Tell us how you are owned by the coporations and how you are directed to misdirect the truth into the gutter. Spill it to us as to why you have stooped so low as to activley campaigne for celebrities and corporate suits on your news shows.

...but in his case I choose to judge him by his own.

He calls drug users scumbags and says it's good that people like Kurt Cobain O.D. -- so the same goes for him.

Cobain, love him or hate him, made a contribution to music - one that will last. Rush contribute(d/s) nothing and he will be recalled only for what he tore down, not for creating dick.

17. I find it incredibly hard
to imagine Limbaugh was dealing drugs. He's addicted, and he has more money than he'll every know what to do with. He wasn't concerned at all about how he was going to get the next $10,000, but he was desperately concerned about how he was going to get the next 1,000 pills. It's far more likely he was simply buying as much as was available whenever the opportunity arose.
BTW, there is a very simple "kitchen sink" method of extracting the tylenol from these pills but some of the hydrocodone is lost in the process. He could have easily been taking 20-50 pills a day, perhaps more. For those who don't know, not extracting the tylenol in a case like this would quickly destroy the liver and lead to death.

37. I concur (WARNING: Graphic Withdrawal Description!)
We don't know how often the guy bought these huge quantities we hear of. He could easily just have been stocking up for himself, I tend to suspect that as well. Much as I'd love to see him busted for dealing!!!

Just for a little perspective, it is actually possible to take 50 or so Vicodin a day for about 5 years before your liver starts to suffer permanent damage... assuming you start out with a fairly pristine liver (i.e. you are younger than rush,and not an alcoholic). Sounds to me like OC was more his drug of choice (very understandable ;), which as you likely know has nothing but pure oxycodone in the way of drug content. And boy, is this shit hard to get off of...

I smile whenever I think of Rush kickin in some rehab facility right now :) I hope they got him goin 'cold turkey'!

The depression you feel coming down from OC is INCREDIBLE. The guilt, the longing for more opiates, and especially the fear of the future and what you might have 'done' to yourself with the dope (which, if, as you say, you're smart enough to stay away from taking too much tylenol with your dope, is actually relatively little in the way of organ damage compared to any other drug you could mention - but Rush is gonna have some MUSIC to face with the public, methinks) is really indescribable to someone who's never felt it.

Imagine having the worst flu of your life, and your most beloved relative has just died when you were at the worst point of the flu symptoms. You CONSTANTLY have to run to the bathroom with the most objectionable, burning squirts you have ever had. You are nauseous, can't eat for days on end, can't sleep (without serious sedatives, anyway), you run a low-grade fever with attendant cold sweats and hypersensitive skin. You get restless, but at the same time you're so lethargic you can't really do much more than sit up for a few seconds at a time. You REALLY want to run down the hall and thrash your arms about wildly to shake off the "goose-pimple bone", but you cannot muster the energy to get out of bed, except to crap. So you thrash about the bed, with the muscle twitching (hence the term 'kicking') keeping you from relaxing in any real way. Your skeleton feels as though if it does not rip itself asunder from the fleshy prison that is causing your bones to hurt and itch at the same time, you are going to scream. Instead, you just sob uncontrollably and feel like you must be THE BIGGEST LOSER on the face of the planet for having done this to yourself. Oh, and this lasts for DAYS ON END!

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA RUSH!!!

Have fun, you sanctimonious, hypocritical fuckwad!!! Couldn't happen to a bigger dick!

10. Millions of dollars to criminal gangs !
How much money did Rush provide to criminal drug gangs? Rush tries to spin it like he had a prescription to something, which he didn't. The fact is he was buying his dope from dope dealing gangs (which are also active in murder, assaults and a wide range of criminal activity), and buying a LOT of it. I am curious how much money Rush gave to criminals. Maybe not millions, but at least several hundred thousand. Let's see some of the press investigate this angle.

ALL about him ALL the time. Lying, fabricating, overly sensitive to criticism, pushing his false self as a means to get supply, and ultimately turning to drugs because even HE knows what a fucker he is.

Does this mean he cares? Hell no. He will only admit to being a fucker if he thinks it will save his ass. The first lie told is the lie one tells to themselves .Being a fuckwad and hurting people is scratch to this self absobed shit dust bag.

He is a fuckwad that wants to be a fuckwad. Because he has never been anything but a fuckwad. And he wants you to know that he hurts and he doesn't want to be a hero...blah blah blah only because he has been exposed. And damnit he still wants to be a fuckwad!!!!

52. Rush avoided the word "Drug" when describing his "problem"
He said "Prescription Pain Medication" did not use the word "Drug."
That is why I don't think he has any intention of giving them up. To him, his problem is a legal one and not a medical one. He got caught. He is pretending go along with the rehab thing so the Judge will let him off for being so proactive about his "problem."

45. I almost feel sorry for the little twit...
Shure he was a drug addict who needs treatment and to accept responsibility for his actions... but at the same time he is a person (has 23 cromozones) unless he is the result of miscreation between barnyard animals.

I just see it as a variant on the entire karmic potentialities collapse... Tick off enough people and they won't help you.

But at the same time, concidering what he did to Mr. and Mrs. Clinton, ethnic minorities, and the word "liberal" I guess he may be about even, having exausted the negative "karmic potetialities."

Now if only he spends the rest of his life building houses for habitat for humanity, could he end up on the positive side. I hope he decides not to become a liberal because fact checking is ideologicaly required as we do not deal in fantacy. Fantacy is for role-playing silly blowhard.

47. Drudge is spreading lies on his radio show right now
he's blathering and ranting on and on about Franken's alleged cocaine abuse on the Saturday Night Live set and at parties, comparing that to rush's prescription drug abuse, saying that the left is now preoccupied with "hypocrisy" and Franken is waiting to see rush "put in the car" (arrested)...

but he is leaving out one teeny tiny detail (and the right always does this... they'll never learn): Franken wasn't high on coke while he was writing his books. he wasn't high when he was talking about rush being "taken away in the car." but rush was high out of his mind during his lunatic ravings calling Hillary "hitlery" and claiming that she killed Vince Foster, blaming everything wrong with bush's presidency on Clinton's incredible larger-than-life penis...

rush was a lunatic junkie on drugs ON THE AIR FOR YEARS purporting to disseminate TRUTH and claiming to be a PARAGON OF VIRTUE and he was HIGH OUT OF HIS MIND THE WHOLE TIME, while Franken was of sound mind while he wrote his books and made his comments about rush.

those righties will never learn... leaving out the details doesn't rewrite history.

Quotes

"Here’s the problem with this big talk-show host who turns out to be a prescription- drug junkie. You have a guy who finally stops spinning and fesses up for his actions. Fine. He says he won’t
play the victim. Good. He’s off to rehab. God bless. But what he and his apologists want you to forget is that he broke the law—yes, the L-A-W. Some of us around here still have respect for it.

Folks, this guy didn’t just use drugs, he put another person in harm’s way to feed his own habit. He repeatedly sent his maid out into a parking lot to score thousands of pills. Talk about cowardly.

50. Garrison Keiller said
Rush Limbaugh is addicted to pain relieving drugs. That explains how he was able to listen to himself on the radio all those years.

51. more truth to that than you'd think!
have you ever been around a heroin junkie (remember, rush's drug oxycontin is called "hillbilly heroin" because it's an opiate with much the same "high")?

heroin junkies are cold, cruel, heartless a**holes. they don't care what they say when they're high... they have no conscience and will do anything they need to, to get another fix. only when they are coming down do they have any sense of guilt at all... and then, it's overwhelming and they wish they could die.

it's true, i think, that rush shut off his conscience to do his show. and he did it with opiate drugs. in large doses. oxycontin in large enough quantities to burn out his ears and destroy his hearing... ironic, isn't it, that the one thing he was trying to achieve, not having to listen to himself rant, was made permanent in the effort?

53. You know, I have some sympathy for him. He's still an a-hole, of course...
But it must truly be hell, drugs or not, when there's no there there.

Rush is a rush around nothing at all. And that is truly hell.

54. A sad life, but...
...while I feel sorry for someone so obviously depressed and reclusive, I can only wonder what the "on-air" Rush would do if a similar profile had come out about a prominent liberal...
