1. Only $7,500!
If people re-up for this, they are desparate!
Very sad!

2. Indeed. I would've gotten a $10K re-up bonus in '69 in Nam.
That would've entailed a 3-year hitch and another tour of duty. Hell, and they had a draft in those days! I guess it was tough finding "combat programmers" (74F40). Comparing $7.5K of today's money to $10K of 1969 dollars sure makes it look small.

10. Hell has it's price!
Can we all say "job security." And, extra pay no less to help maintain the behaviors in the name of "doing the job." BRING 'EM ON!

YET, WHEN THE GITMO TORTURE * HITS THE FAN, TRANSFER THOSE STERLING "HELPERS" RIGHT UP FRONT.

Dr. Kathy Platoni, Beaver Creek, Ohio. Dr. Platoni reported
on the death of her father, Eugene Platoni, and her own extensive
medical problems arising from what he believed was exposure to
radiation in Navy service. Her father told the family before his
death that he had witnesses the atomic explosions at Hiroshima
and Nagasaki.

Yup, MAKES ONE WONDER WHAT'S THIS ONE'S AGENDA??? SCOFFING UP the Army's "hush money" or creating the horrible guilt that will accompany an unconvincing arguement that killing babies, destroying families, ruining a country's infrastructure is rational in the name of freedom and $$ for Halliburton.

5. Ooooh! I appear to be a 15Q!
They're gonna have to offer one hell of a lot more than $7,500 to get my attention, though...

Bullets et moi, ca fait deux.

a miserly $7,500. Bush can keep his money ... I hope no one signs to prolong his stay with the army.

Bush breathes, eats and drinks blood. It is time to stop his orgy.

Say NO to becoming a troop in bush's army.

13. That'll buy you a good powered wheelchair
With that sort of cash, the returning veteran can easily afford a quality powered wheelchair. He/she can even get the kind that only requires one functioning limb or, if a limb is not available, a nice sip-and-puff electric wheelchair. Well, the $7,500 might not pay for the chair, but it'll be a nice down payment.

Of course that doesn't cover the cost of all the other medical equipment he/she will need. But that's where the fully-funded and fully-staffed VAMC will come in handy.

I've been a disabled veteran for the past 25 years and it's really easy to adjust to a new life with all the neat gadgets!

14. Man, that's sad..
I was in procurement and a three striper in the USAF and in 1973 they offered me a Variable Re-enlistment Bonus of $20,000 bucks!

And that is in 1970's money - that's basically what a freakin DOCTOR was making in a year..

I could have bought a house in California for that (was stationed in Cal at the time) and by now it would be worth a cool million or more I bet..

I DO sometimes regret not continuing on in my job, at least as a "sillyvilian" - some of those guys in office were raking in 80 grand a year and all they did was sit on their asses all day..

but I wanted to get out, grow my hair, play guitar, be a hippy...

What a raw deal, stupid offer - they could get 200 grand if they could fake their death, buy mom a new trailor and then disappear into Thailand or Mexico feeling richer than Donald Trump.

The troops must be more desperate than the idiots offering this sucky deal.

Good, more will be leaving in droves then, and many lives will be saved that way :)
