London bomber linked to 2003 Israel attack - report
http://asia.news.yahoo.com/050717/3/242qj.html

<snip>

"One of the suspects in last week's London bombings visited Israel in 2003 and is believed to have helped plan a suicide bombing by two British Muslims in Tel Aviv, an Israeli newspaper reported on Sunday.
Citing Israeli security sources, Maariv daily said that Mohammad Sidique Khan, who police believed blew himself up aboard the Underground train at Edgware Road on July 7, travelled to the Jewish state two years ago.

During his trip, Khan helped two fellow Britons of Pakistani descent, Asif Hanif and Omar Sharif, carry out a suicide bombing at a Tel Aviv beachfront bar on April 30, 2003 that killed three Israelis, Maariv said citing security sources.

Hanif blew himself up at Mike's Place bar, but Sharif fled after apparently failing to detonate his bomb. His body was discovered in the sea a week later, and investigators concluded that he had drowned."

1. "No he wasn't" says another senior Israeli security source...

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli security sources played down a report on Sunday that a key suspect in this month's London bombings is believed to have helped plan a pro-Palestinian suicide attack in Tel Aviv two years ago.

Maariv daily said Mohammad Sidique Khan traveled to the Jewish state in 2003 and that Israeli defense officials suspect he helped two fellow British Muslims carry out a suicide bombing at a beachfront bar that year that killed three people.

British police named Khan, 30, as a member of a cell that killed at least 55 people in the July 7 bombings in the capital.

A senior Israeli security source said the Maariv report, which cited no evidence, was unsubstantiated.

"This is not a concrete finding," the source said.'

2. "...Maariv said citing security sources..."

Reporters who permit Israeli security sources to plant items in the news have about as much credibility as Judith Miller. Read between the lines. Look behind the curtain. And assume that whatever is said is either misdirection of some kind or the opposite of the truth. I have no trust in them at all. Might as well take Ahmed Chalabi or Karl Rove at their word.
