Bush opens door to nuclear help for India
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush, in a dramatic policy shift, promised India full cooperation on Monday in developing its civilian nuclear power program in return for New Delhi's commitment to adhere to international regimes aimed at curbing arms proliferation.

A statement released after talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that underscored Washington's recognition of India as a rising power said Bush would ask Congress to change U.S. law and work with allies to adjust international rules to allow nuclear trade with India.

Washington had barred providing atomic technology to India because of New Delhi's status as a nuclear power that has refused to sign the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, which was designed to halt the spread of nuclear weapons.

But the joint statement, obtained by Reuters, said: "As a responsible state with advanced nuclear technology, India should acquire the same benefits and advantages as other states."

3. Nothing concrete in this....currently just NeoCon hot air....
Meanwhile, India has formed relationships with China, Russia, and Iran...does that mean the NeoCons are willing to form relationships with them, too?

And how will this affect our current relationships, what few we have left, with other countries in the region?

What a typically bone-headed move by the NeoCons.

6. why would you not trust india...
...it's the largest democracy in the world...

the country has been a leader in promoting human rights...

its people are moderate, hardworking, and actually like america.

it's definitely good having such a powerful ally in such an instable region

besides, it deserves american support a whole lot more that Isreal or Pakistan.
