District Wants Santorum to Repay Tuition
-----------------
The Associated Press
-----------------
PENN HILLS, Pa. School board members voted Monday to continue to seek a refund for tuition paid for Sen. Rick Santorum's children to take classes through an Internet-based school while they lived in Virginia.

(snip)

Erin Vecchio, a school board member who also heads the local Democratic committee, said district administrators never told the board that Santorum's children were enrolled in the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School.

"We don't think it's fair," Vecchio said of the hearing officer's recommendation.

(snip)

In Pennsylvania, school districts must pay tuition for resident students who enroll in cyber schools. While Santorum owns a three-bedroom house in Penn Hills, his family lives primarily in Leesburg, Va.

Vecchio has said that Penn Hills paid about $100,000 in tuition, but Santorum has said the amount in dispute is about $34,000.

3. I think that's why it says...
that they voted to CONTINUE the fight to get the $$$ back from Santorum. In other words, Vecchio and the other board members are not going to be stopped by the Dept. of Education's ruling.

6. They paid $100,000 for his kids' tuition?
WTF? That seems like way too much to pay for some half-assed internet based course. Reminds me of correspondence courses you'd see on a match-book cover 30 years ago. Who authorized that kind of dough in the first place? Jeez! And this idiot is in the US Senate.

typical rust-belt city school....some of the top football players in the U.S. have come out of Penn Hills....(truly think that they could have beat Penn State last year), but for academics, not as good as Leesburg. but Ricky lied his way into office by saying that his opponent was not a resident of Penn Hills and thanks to karma it came back to bite him in the ass, plus I think he's such an elitist that he doesn't want his kids in "the real world", thus the computer. Oh by the by, welcome to d/u, pull up your pants-legs , it will get a little deep sometimes.

13. Since he lives in VA
The condition of the schools in Penn Hills is pretty much irrelevant. As for the public schools in Loudoun County, those are some of the best in the country. However, since the area is also highly diverse, his children might be exposed to Muslims, and Buddhists, and pagans. Oh my!

11. This is bad press for Rick just ahead of the campaign
He's in real trouble here in PA. To win statewide, one must pull a large load of Democratic votes. This whole affair makes him look like a sneaky cheapskate.

Rick's days in office appear to be numbered.

Both Rick and Arlen are viewed by labor as all talk and no action.

In addition, there will be serious hell to pay when the military base closings occur in the state. Both will get the blame.

Let us hope for better days ahead!
