WP: Hillary Clinton Draws Applause From Hispanics (at La Raza convention)
Hillary Clinton Draws Applause From Hispanics
By Darryl Fears
Tuesday, July 19, 2005; Page A05

Speaking on the grandest stage of the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights organization yesterday in Philadelphia, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) made no mention of presidential ambitions, but many said her message and delivery had the aura of a campaign speech.

Clinton touched on nearly every issue that was important to Hispanics, the nation's largest ethnic group and a crucial voting bloc. She said she wanted to make sure Hispanic children got a fair education, and that families had medical insurance to ward off health problems such as asthma and lead poisoning that affect kids. She also talked of supporting legislation that would make it easier for immigrants to send money back home, which Hispanics do at a rate of about $200 per month.

"You are doing your part to make sure that every child has a special place in the American dream," she said at the National Council of La Raza convention. "But I don't know if your government is doing its part right now to make your job easier."

A thunderous ovation followed, the first of many rounds of applause.

"To me it sounded like a campaign speech," said Nellie Moreno of Phoenix, who said she was surprised that Clinton did not talk about immigration, temporary-worker programs and the border with Mexico. "I was hoping to hear something," she said. America Jones of El Paso said she heard what she wanted. "I hope that she will run, whether it sounded like a campaign speech or not," she said....

1. Did she encourage the attendees to sacrifice their children to the US Army
Hillary wants to increase the size of the US Army. The only way to do that is to get people to join or encourage parents to sacrifice their kids to the military.

2. I Heard Excerpts
on the radio here in Philadelphia and it clearly sounded like a pander-fest. In other words, a campaign speech.

3. She is an awesome speaker

and she is way smarter than anyone else out there.

I think she is a better politician than Bill. I love him but America just doesn't seem to be ready for a woman that speaks her mind.

Does she play both sides against the middle- yes!

That's politics and she is a Master of the Game.

6. Perhaps it would be better to have a leader than a politician

8. I would have called Kerry a leader

and I worked for him with all my heart.

I would have and still do call Wes Clark a leader and I supported him before Kerry took over.

Something tells me that in order for a Democrat to get elected this next time we need a POLITICIAN.

And, it will be a hard road for any woman to become president because America may not be ready for it.

Well, America needs to get ready because Hilliary has every right to run for President.

I would support her - she is a proven LEADER in the Senate and she is a proven Politician in the Clinton WH (for sure) and now in the Senate.

5. Hillary is my senator...
I've talked with her; she's whipcrack smart.

I'd bed her if Bill would let me...

I adore intelligent women.

10. She's brilliant, too bad it's going to waste
by trudging the centerline on the hiway to nowhere.
I hope her battle against hidden vidgame porn keeps her fulfilled. There is no more important issue in America than vidgame porn!
