HELENA, Mont. -- A man wielding a baseball bat was arrested after he allegedly showed up at the governor's mansion and made verbal threats after the state's first lady opened the door.

Police Chief Troy McGee said Joshua Erickson, 20, of Helena, was arrested Tuesday night. He faces disorderly conduct, trespassing and other charges and was jailed Wednesday on $75,000 bail.

Police said began looking for Erickson after they got a call from his parents Tuesday saying he had violated a restraining order.
The man arrived at the governor's mansion and Nancy Schweitzer answered the door. McGee said he began to make threats toward Gov. Brian Schweitzer.

"She closed the door immediately and he tried to open the door and could not get in," McGee said.

3. The young man heads to the Gov's official residence just as Schweitzer

starts getting national attention and people keep mentioning him as a contender for 2008 presidential bid. Hmmmm, hope there is no cause for tin foil.

Can any of you Helena evilDUers find out who may have been pal-ling around with Mr. Joshua Erickson of late? Would be good to know this was just his normal rage and not something fed by some new friends of the violent young man.

VERY homesick. Get to Bozeman (and did sightseeing in Butte and Virginia City and of course Big Sky).

10. Pssst, it's in the Rocky Mountains, but don't tell anyone!

The old part of town sprang up around gold finds along a trickle of water. Four prospectors, discouraged and riding through the area decided to pan the stream, giving gold huntin one last chance in that gulch... The main street downtown is Last Chance Gulch. That stream came tumbling down the mountains toward a wide valley.

It really is a lovely town. Interesting homes in the old part of town, some very modest and some have to be seen to be believed. Some big money made back in the day. Lots of people had more money than they knew existed and built their dreams.

Used to live across the street from the Cathedral. Nice view.

hard to imagine that just anyone can walk up to the governor's mansion (or any mansion for that matter) and just knock on the door.

6. Yeah, there are guys who patrol and cameras.

The Governor can have someone around when he wants. But Helena is a fairly small town, as cities go. It is generally safe, friendly and a lot of folks never lock their doors.

The 'Mansion' is a nice big house on a corner in a nice neighborhood near the Capital building. Montanans do not like their eleceted officials to be hard to talk to. The current Governor knows this.

Security will probably be a bit more, um, present now, but it is a place where it is easy to get face time with your elected officials. This was probably a real shocker to the Mrs. when she opened the door. Just not what one generally worries about in a place like Montana.

I used to walk alone at all hours of the day or night when I lived there. Never felt threatened at all. Very friendly place.

8. thats really assuring to know that the capital in Montana is open to its

citizens. I wish it were that way in some of the places I've lived in like California or New York. Every politician you see always has to have some kind of entourage full of staff, makes regular people feel insulated from teh people they elect.
