Rice angered after US officials manhandled in Sudan
KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudanese security manhandled U.S. officials and journalists outside a meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and President Omar Hassan al-Bashir on Thursday, prompting Rice to demand an apology.

"It makes me very angry to be sitting with their president and have this happen," Rice told reporters on her plane before leaving Khartoum for Darfur. Earlier, she told reporters she wanted an apology.

Sudanese guards and officials shoved U.S. journalists away from the Bashir meeting and slammed the wooden doors to his palace in their faces.

How much do you all think Ole Karl paid the Sudanese to cook this one up?

He asked her why the U.S. was taking sooo long to act on the crisis in the Sudan.

She weakly stubmled along about how the U.S. was waiting for a U.N. resolution (imagine that) to do something more substantial.

15. I think I'm in heaven - this part is so YUMMY!
NBC correspondent roughed up

But there was yet another scuffle with security shortly after he apologized when NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell tried to ask el-Bashir a question about his involvement with alleged atrocities.

"Why should the U.S. believe the Sudanese government will stop the killing when the government is still supporting the militia?" Mitchell asked, before guards grabbed her and muscled her toward the rear of the room as State Department officials shouted at the guards to leave her alone.

18. I agree...
Rice is disgusting, but that doesn't mean I have to support the butchers in Sudan's government roughing-up reporters who dare to question them. This has nothing to do with Sudan getting back at us for our foreign policy, or for the sorry state of our media. This is a dictator who is not used to a "free" media like ours (and I struggled to type that) that is free to ask questions of our leaders.

42. So, our dictatorial president can unilaterally declare anybody,
US citizen or not, an enemy combatant, and imprison them indefinitely with or without a trial,

He can torture people at will,

He can start wars preemptively based even on lies,

And you don't see the irony of this action?

I don't think WE have any basis to criticise the actions of others for mistreatment any longer until WE clean up our own house.

This incident was perpetrated by a reporter trying to make a splash

She had no business asking questions to embarass members of the other diplomatic mission.

This was a diplomatic mission not an investigative hit campaign. Andre Mitchell should show some respect the next time

At least the Sudanese stand in the middle of their truth and do their deed so all can see... and can issue a damn apology for going too far. I've yet to see * do anything remotely close to that... in fact, he takes pride in forging ahead in the very opposite direction of that.

* should be handing Rove and Cheney their walking papers and not offering immunity to either of them. Those are living, breathing, blatant American criminals who will never see the inside of a prison cell.

But we're also talking about the fact that the * government isn't blameless, either--by a long shot. They are both corrupt---the difference being the * government does things in the shadows, under cover, on the sly---pissing on one's head and telling them it's raining--with the collusion of the MSM, Mitchell being a part of that.

I just want to see her use the balls she used in Sudan and lob the same questions at * and his ilk.

24. Condi's just mad that they were so indiscreet about it.
One of Rice's aides eventually said, "We have a free press in the U.S.," and a Sudanese official responded, "Well, we don't here," Koppel reported.

Rice is visiting Sudan hoping to shore up the country's new government following more than two decades of civil warfare between the largely Islamic north and the mostly Christian and animist south. Sudan's new leaders were sworn in this month.

She'll send someone over there for some tutorials on how to massage and manipulate the press so that they voluntarily spread the desired message.

31. Exactly!!
The irony is so rich. Sudan is one of our "partners" in the war on terror. It's just one more repressive regime that Bushco has teamed up with in it's continuing march of hypocrisy and incompetence. They just don't have the skilled touch that our criminal administration has when it comes to "handling" the press. They are at a disadvantage because they don't have the leverage or influence allowing them to subtly manipulate reporter's and their coverage. They're reduced to slamming doors in their face and shoving them around. All that's needed is some kind of Bushco seminar or Karl Rove-like guru to help them perfect their technique.

As NSA, Rice had a prominent role to play in protecting our nation.
9.11 was a hugh flop (on her watch), people were running through the streets for their lives. Thousands died.

Wars (Invasions) ensued. Many more thousands died.

As a result of these failures and deaths and destruction, Rice gets promoted.
